Need advice for new headset

I need some advice. I’ve looked around on my own and keep hitting dead-ends. It does not help matters that I have limited experience with good quality setups.

I’m looking for a new pair of stereo headphones (though ideally I would like a headset) for gaming on a PC. I highly prefer circumaural for comfort. They need to be compatible with a CMSS-3D and/or Dolby Headphone sound card (so no USB, unless that is used for power and/or a microphone). I’m considering both wired and wireless (preferred wireless). I like to feel the explosions, so the better that bass is, the happier I will be. I would also like the best audio quality possible within my budget (up to $100 I would not have to save for, but I’d be willing to wait if up to $300 would make a significant difference).

Wired - Must have detachable/replaceable cable (I’ve lost far too many decent headphones/headsets due to cables coming loose, fraying, etc. and I have never had luck with re-soldering connections).

Wireless - Must have replaceable batteries. I’d prefer standard batteries, but would go with proprietary so long as I could order more.


If I could find a durable CMSS-3D/Dolby Headphone sound card compatible wireless headset with replaceable batteries and good bass/high fidelity for under $300, I would be ecstatic.

Just found the Tritton Kunai headset. Seems to fit the bill. 3.5mm audio input from the base station, and the description says that it requires 2 AA batteries for the headset. Anybody ever use these, or have experience with Tritton in general? My brother had a wired Tritton surround sound headset and said he really liked them (they broke shortly after warranty was up). But I have no idea what kind of bass or clarity they output.

First, thanks SoFGR for the suggestion, but it does not look like the 363D has a replaceable cable, plus I have no need for one of its main selling points (usb 7.1 surround). I do like Sennheiser, and those look very comfortable.

I went ahead and bought a Tritton Kunai Wireless headset. I'm happy with it, though I wish it had more bass. I compared it, one after the other, with my CM Storm Sirus S and my Creative Fatal1ty headsets. As far as audio clarity, the Kunai seems just as good as the Fatal1ty (bass is less). I also noticed that audio tends to cut out every once in a while (maybe for 1-2 seconds in a 20-60 minute span) even though the transceiver is very close. I have tested the microphone, and know that it works, but have yet to call anyone on skype or steam, so I am not sure of the quality.

Even with the lack of good bass, and the audio cutouts, I am pleased with this headset. It seems that 3.5mm wireless stereo headsets with replaceable batteries are far and few in between, and at $99 I think it was the best available. The worst part is that the ear pads are that plastic vinyl crap. The CM Storm Sirus S had far superior earpads, and larger earcups. The Kunai Wireless has earcups larger then the wired version, but are barley large enough for my ears. Still, the comfort is adequate (I have a large head and wear glasses, hat size is 8/XXL).
