Sorry for beating a dead horse, but I have been back and forth, back and forth for months and months now. I need a new monitor, and im at a complet loss as to what I should be looking for. Samsung LCD seems to be very popular here in norway, but I see less about them here on this forums

I use my computer mostly for plain old surfing, a few hours of WoW or WAR every now and then, and maybe as much as 30mins flying on my RC helicoper sim. I use my computer ALOT really, and I think it's about time to replace my trusted Viewsonic VX912. Anyways, first question is, should I aim for 24" or 26"? I sitt only half a meter or so from the screen, and im slighly worried im just to close for the screen to comfortably use a 26" screen. Any opinions on that?

Fare as monitors goes, I have been looking at a Samsung LCD Syncmaster 2693HM, 26" with a fair price. The 24" Samsung T240 or Syncmaster 2443BW is around 2/3 of the price here, and seems to offer alot for the money really. Are they superior in image quality compared to the 2693, or are they much the same just 2" less?

I know this is inferior TN panel quality, but im not sure if I really need anything better. The 26" samsung is about as much money as im willing to spend on this, and anything should be a huge upgrade from my Viewsonic I guess? So, could any kind soul please help me with some advice on what to buy?

I was in the same boat as wanting a 26inch but the casing of the T260/T240 is awful. I think you would hate it for the case alone if you bought it. The 2493 series uses the same panel as 245bw, I own a 245bw and while they are ok at first, TN panels over 22inches are extremely annoying due to viewing angle and pretty much not worth it when other options are available.

There are only 3 good options right now:

22inch IPS dell 2209wa
24inch IPS HP 2475
30inch PVA Samsung 305T $999 (only has 29ms input lag which is why I recommend it)

I didn't recommend the NEC2490 because why buy a 24inch for $1200 when you can get a 30inch with good factory calibration for $999 with less input lag?

Then to be released soon: 23inch LG 16:9 IPS panel.

I don't believe there is any reason to consider panels outside of the ones I listed. I also do not include any refurb deals in this list because I have enough problems with brand new monitors to consider a used one.

I'm considering the Samsung T260 and will use it mostly for office work, programming etc. After reading reviews like http://hwt.dk/literaturedetails.aspx?LiteratureID=13857 (in Danish), I am concerned that I will be disappointed. Translated from the review: "For office work, text and graphics, I have to admit that the screen is a bit too big for the bad viewing angle. Text along the edges isn't "clear" and for graphics, there is a slight change of colors depending on your eyes' position to the screen."

Can any T260 owners comment on this?

I'm currently using a Dell 2001fp from 2005 (1600x1200). I believe it is an S-IPS panel. Apart from two replacements (uneven backlight), I've been very happy with it. Text is clear and colors look "right". It cost almost twice the price of a T260. Is there a chance that the Dell is in fact a better quality panel than the Samsung T260?

Any comments are appreciated. I really like the specs and the price on the T260, and I don't need the absolute best of the best screens, but it has to deliver for normal desktop use.

Samsung T240/260 series sucks ass.Get BenQ V2400 if you looking for TN
Dell 2209WA or HP 2475w if you like IPS if you ask me avoid T260 i had awful experience
with my T240 those Samsung T series are overrated if you ask me!

The Samsung T240 is a great monitor for a tn, but the colors need to be calibrated. I'm a gamer and I'm very happy with this panel, picture quality is superb, response time is excellent, no ghosting, and the colors are richer and more vibrant than my friend's benq gw. Honestly I don't see why people here seem to rip on the samsung, but I highly recommend the T240 and I assume the T260 is just as good.

The colors are chemical, the input lag is huge! the gamma shift is insane
contrast lost is also huge, color shift is one more issue.Really don't know
how come you dont notice any of this? either you are blind or you
got an IPS T240 :D

So in other words go for a 24" or smaller monitor unless you can afford one of those pimpin 30" monitors and have the graphics card(s) to power it.

I'd recommend a monitor larger than 24" for 1920x1200.

I hate squinting. Larger pixel dot width is a godsend, it enables me to stay farther away from my monitor and keep my eyesight :)

I have a DoubleSight 263-N, too bad it's out of production. There's a 265W, a bit pricey and inferior compared to its older brother, but still about the same if you have the money (~$700 still I think).

higher DPI settings are also a godsend, but people don't think of these things.

Question to OP: Why are you looking for such a large monitor?

I have been looking at a Samsung LCD Syncmaster 2693HM, 26" with a fair price.
I use that exact model and would recommend it. They were at BB as clearance around the beginning of the year.
I don't hunt for LCDs too often but I really enjoy mine. Before I had this I was using a 21" Sun CRT. 26" is a great size for 1920, but you can't match any multimonitors on the side. A portrait 17" 5:4 would work, but the resolution heights wouldn't quite match. The stand on the Samsung is very manueverable compared to most models, it does height, and rotates two ways. I use on my primary desktop for gaming and photo editting. The control buttons are touch sensitive and are hard to read without direct light on them. It's not too big a deal since they don't need playing with once it is setup right. There are built in speakers on it too, but I never really used them, I'm sure they're awful. The colors seem more vibrant than my netbook or Dell 2007FP. Reds are stronger and have more saturation. The colors don't look poor, so I think it actually has superior coloring to it compared to standard LCDs. Three inputs: HDMI, DVI, VGA. And VGA can be adapted to component or composite anyways. There's no PIP. The power light is blue. Enclosure is gloss black with a mirror finish silver indented strip at the bottom. It scratches and finger prints easily like all gloss black, but they're not visible unless you shine a light on it to look for it.
