Need a walk through for overclocking.

Ok so a couple months ago i used easy tune 6 to over clock my cpu from 3.06ghz to 3.45ghz.

Long story short, easy tune 6 sucks, it saves my cpu at 3.45ghz but never saves my voltage

now i never overclocked manually through bios so i was wondering if someone can walk me through it or provide a tutorial.

the only thing i know i have to change is my cpu frequency and voltage :D
but i have no idea how im supposed to set them through bios.

i would like to stay at 3.45ghz and was told to set my voltage to 1.3

For a start, leave everything else on auto, and walk up the cpu multiplier. Thats how I did it on my GA-P45-DQ6. I agree the easy tune sucks.
Walk it up, check what it auto sets timings and voltages to. Do your prime95 and whatever tests to ensure stability, check your temps. Save your bios whenever you test stable. Then you can play with turning off auto and tweaking timings and voltages. I found that the cpu and ram did not need quite as much voltage as the auto settings provided, but it is a tedious process of testing for stability and saving (or not) your bios settings.

What is really cool about the 1366 arena right now is, you can find 980x's under 500, sometimes under 400 right now, if you were so inclined...B)
 
What I do probably doesn't follow any proper method. I try to look for the best combination of speed/stability/temperature in an O/C. With my most recent O/C, I simply used offset overclocking with 50% LLC calibration and added 10 more mV whenever my system was unstable at the current multiplier.

I took my system up to 5 GHz with this method, however I was using 1.48V at that point to keep it stable. Since I want my i5 to last longer than a few months I started the process in the reverse direction looking to see what the lowest voltage I could get at X multiplier was. That's how I got my current O/C. I could probably tune it more and drop a few more mV, but its stable and under 52C at load.
 
On my AMD X2s and Core2duos and core2quads, I always would keep the same multiplier, or reduce the multiplier and max out the core clock. Then reduce the memory multiplier so that your RAM runs close to its specified range.

There is a point where you have to increase the voltage to obtain stability and you increase your heat beyond the advantage of the extra performance, that is where you have to find the day to day stable OC.
 
ok so i manually over clocked bclk 150, cpu @ 3.45ghz, vcore 1.3v
when i open control panel, system it says Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz 3.45 GHz
when i open cpu-z it says Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz
in bios it says 3.45GHz
Non Turbo Frequency 3450.3
Turbo Frequency 3600.3

does this look right?
