looking for a cheap usb print server for a Canon MF4150 AIO laser printer. doesnt have to be wireless unles its cheap. anyone use a printer server with this printer or can recommend a printer server
thanks!

These days you just buy the printer with networking already installed. I haven't touched a print server since the 1990s :)

There are tons for sale if you look in Google. Just pick one.

Just find one that lists your printer model as being compatible.

yea..thats what im having trouble with. im curious if i put on print server if its strictly printer or if it wwill also do scanning over network. since this is an AIO machine

I doubt you'll be able to scan via the print server you buy. There was a similar thread where this topic was brought up... search for it and see what others said.

ok how about this idea...i have my whs running 24/7 most of the time. how about i install my printer on my whs so that it could act like a print server? is this a plausable idea?

well no win2k3 drivers =(

Dude.

I'm assuming you got this cheap, or else you wouldn't be trying so hard to make this printer something it's not. You would have posted a thread about your needs, and we would have found you a printer that fit those needs. End of story, everyone lives happily ever after.

But there comes a point where you're just wasting your time. I believe we've hit that point.

You BOUGHT a multifunction printer. You want to use ALL the functions over the network, but you cheaped-out and bought the crappiest one you could find with no networking. If you paid real money for this printer and bought it from a store, you need to take it back and get something better fitting your needs. Unfortunately for you, the all-in-one networked printers carry a price premium, but it will all work like you want it to.

I've had really good luck with Brother offerings, so if you're not happy with Canon (seriously, who supports XP, but doesn't support Server 2k3), you ought to look elsewhere. Check out this multi-function printer for $250 with ethernet:

And I checked: it has w2k3 drivers :)

You are right i got this DIRT cheap. i dont want to use ALL fuctions. i just need it to mainly print over network. i DONT need it to have scanning features over network. but thanks for the info.

Then buy a print server adapter and be done with it. We've already established that you will be able to print if it's included in the list of compatible machines. You were the one who brought-up the desire for network scanning.

Anyway, if you can't scan over the network, where exactly do you plan to scan, since you can't share it from your server box? If you don't have local access, you can't use the feature, period.
