Mostly for playback and some recording (i have an electric piano), and Linux compatible if possible. Any suggestions?
 
Have you looked into the EMU USB soundcards? EMU 0202 and 0404 USB?
 
I don't know, i was thinking more along the lines of Terratec (expensive though), or M-Audio. Not sure i trust creative for something like this. Of course, if i'm going to run Linux this is going to limit my options.
 
I've owned the E-MU 0404 PCI for a long time and I haven't had any issues with regards to recording applications. At first, multimedia wasn't too great, but it isn't an issue these days.
