I'm not quite sure what I need, I have a computer I got Windows Media Center on when I ordered it. I would like to put in a tuner/capture card that is compatible with WMC and will be able to capture the S-video out on my Dish box. I would like to be able to record and watch TV in WMC. Could someone recommend me a good solution under $200? Thanks in advance.

There are many options. Most would argue that Hauppauge and Nvidia make good capture cards.

I have a Hauppauge 150MCE and a Hauppauge 500MCE (Dual Tuner version of 150MCE). Both have served me well.

All you have to do is get a card which: A) Is supported by Win MCE and B) has an S-Video input.

I'm actually quite suprised that you got a computer with Windows MCE loaded on it, yet it didn't come with a capture card.

Best analog card would be the ATI 550 or 650 pro as stated by Anandtech.

Why? Most MCE systems are sold like that, MCE has replaced Home on these kinds of systems.

What Anandtech knows about HTPCs could fit in a thimble. In other words they know jack shit.

Either way you want to pickup a tuner based on ATI's 550 pro chip (don't bother with the newer 650 right now) or Avermedia's Purity 250 (you can get it directly from Avermedia). Those are the best single tuners out there right now, Hauppauge has replaced the tuner on their cards with an inferior one that tends to lead to image quliayt issues.

Dont even get me started on their testing "methodology". It's really scary, they know just enough to be dangerous and misinform a lot of people.

Like that THQ article on how to buld a fubared HTPC.
