Tryin to create a super cheap computer for a friend. Value/performance is key here. I am also located in Canada so prices are in CDN.

Heres what I came up with so far:

I wanted to get him a S939 Mobo and CPU but can't swing it with the low budget.
Any and all suggestions are welcome

Hahah... what are you talking about???!?!?

Ya I finally got the idea behind photobucket and saving as jpg.

And Yea I plan to overclock to get the most value out of it.

ah, you fixed it. before it was like 100x150px

can you get a chaintech mobo? the dfi is nice, but probably not needed.
also... 9250? bleh. might as well get a fx5200 ;)

I could get a chaintech but I thought I would go with the DFi as I plan to overclock it to as far as it will go.

So get the 5200 if its cheaper?

if you plan to overclock as far as you can go i would go with the sempron 64 2800+ it is around $75 U.S. and so worth it...it is the cheapest that will go the farthest out of the sempron 64's if that makes sense...the 2600+ will go just as high but i think the extra $10 is worth it for the 256kb cache...alot of people have problems getting anything above the 2800+ to oc very far...i have mine at almost a 1.1ghz oc so no complaints out of me....just a thought....

He is in Canada and you linked him to Newegg. If I'm not mistaken, Newegg does not ship internationally.

Ok from the FAQ
"Newegg.com does not currently ship internationally; we only deliver to locations within the United States and to Puerto Rico."

can you swing a 6200 or 6600? that would be better i think then the 9250

6200 $72
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133149

6600 $113
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130232

and id get the 2800+ Sempron64 too

Unfortunately, the GeForce 6xxx series (in AGP) would cost more than double that of the 9250 over in Canada.

On the other hand, I would not recommend that Radeon 9250 64-bit card: It's so slow in 3D that you might as well get a motherboard with integrated graphics instead of that DFI nForce3 motherboard. (Okay, the 9250 64-bit is a bit faster than onboard - but not fast enough to justify paying money for.) Secondly, it's only DX8.1-compliant; many newer games require DX9-compliant hardware in order to run correctly. However, if the end user will not be doing any gaming at all whatsoever on that system, then the 9250 will do - but so will onboard graphics on integrated motherboards, for that matter.

As for your choice of memory, almost all 512MB sticks are double-sided. And due to the limitations of the built-in memory controller on Socket 754 CPUs, you cannot run two double-sided sticks of memory at DDR400 (200MHz) speed; they will default to DDR333 (166MHz). However, the performance hit will be negligible at DDR333 versus that at DDR400, due to the characteristics of AMD's HyperTransport bus. (For the record, Socket 754 CPUs support a maximum HyperTransport multiplier of 4x/800MHz, versus 5x/1GHz as on Socket 939 CPUs.)

The guy will not be playing any video games at all. So I guess I could go with a motherboard with onboard video but just didnt know which one was any good.

Check my F/S thread......parts, im[H]o, are better and cheaper once you add the drive and case. :p

EDIT: Eh crap didn't notice Canadian prices....but I'd still work something out if you like. :)

P.S.-I think the American to Canadian dollar exchange rate is like...... $1.3 USD=$1 CAD..that's what it was in 04' at least.

Don't you mean $1 USD = $1.3 CAD?

Yes...I'm retarded lol

Ty eclipse, your a beast. :)

Anyways...yea dude look at my stuff, maybe we can strike a deal or something. My stuff OC's amazing for a NewbCastle too (450Mhz OC on PQi Turbo). :D

Yea I had a look at your sale. If the money was mine, certainly we could work something out. But he likes 'warrenty' (overclock = kill warrenty, I know) and the stuff to be new.
