I need a storage drive mostly for media files but some installers and other junk. Now for storage I dont really think I need 3g serial ata/16mb cache but I would like to stick with serial ata so would I really see much difference in 1.5g/8mb cache?

Basically looking for large and most bang for buck. Thinking something in the 300-500gb range but the 500's seem pricey so probably a 400. I hear good things about seagate especially for what I intend to use it for(not the greatest on load times I hear). I've seen the 300gb/3g SATA/16mb @ $199 and then the 400gb/1.5 ATA/8mb for around $240. Should I just go with the 300 or will I really so little to no difference?

any other drive I should look at? Thanks in advance for the help

Maxtor rules on cheap capacity, but Seagate is probably your best choice, as they run cooler than the Maxtor, have higher density/transfer rates, and are backed by a five year warranty.

yeah I think I'll pay the extra few bucks and get a seagate 300gb.

Dont really need sata 3.0 transfer or 16mb cashe so I should be able to get away with spending like $140 I think.
