I have an Athlon 5400+, 2.8ghz. I am looking for a silent CPU cooler. Right now I have a Golden Orb II and not only is it loud (more than the 17 dBa they claim) even when it's 7volt modded it actually lets the CPU overheat when I run a single instance of Prime95 for ~20 minutes with the case closed.

I used Arctic Silver between the CPU and heatsink and I am using this fan shroud as pictured which has been slightly modified from stock. The CPU actually runs below the case temp at idle with the case open (right now its 82 F CPU, 88F case & 75 F room ambient) and also closed (~99F CPU, 106F case, 75-80F ambient). I know I need to clean up the cables in the PC but I've been lazy and it still shouldn't allow the CPU to overheat under (technically) half load. I am not overclocking at all.nor do I intend to.

So what's a good AM2 cooler that's also silent? A 4-pin (PWM) connector is a big plus.

Prefer < $30 and no there's no reason to use the duct but it should be able to fit anything.. that's a 120mm fan behind it.

I like that 120mm version good price too....

Did you see the pictures (you can click them to enlarge)? You mean replace that with just a paper duct? What would be the point. That would be an intake fan BTW.

ALso can someone recommend 2 silent 120mm fans? I'd want an average one for the exhaust and a strong one for the intake (rear) but silence is key....
