I will be running a heavily overclocked and watercooled A64 and 6800GT.

There are a few that have come to mind

Tagan 480 watt.
Antec NeoPower
Thermaltake 560 Watt.

Does anyone know which of these would be the quietest, or have any other suggestions?

OK, so the Tagan appears to be the quietest, and performance-pcs will sleeve it, which I like.

However, let me get this straight.

It is rated for 336W on the 12V rail (28A). This means that in actuality I have about 200W on the 12V rail. So, I can assume it is an ATX 1.3 PSU, which isn't a huge deal to me, but . . .

will it adequately power:

4 160GB Seagate SATA HDs
2 DVD burners (obviously never burning at the same time)
1 BFG 6800 GT running at 425/1150
1 GB PC4000
1 A64 3000+ overclocked within an inch of it's life
1 soundcard of unknown variety

?????????????????????????

Here are my initial thoughts.

The processor will probably consume 80W of the 12V rail (probably conservative)
The graphics card will probably consume 65W max (xbitlabs)
I have no idea about the HDs/Optical/Ram/Assorted.

Would anyone be willing to place a bet either way?

Thanks much.

The Neopower will probably be the quietest. I'm using one now and can't hear it unless I put my ear next to it. The Neopower has dual 12 volt rails, one for CPU, and the other for everything else. Very nice if you plan on running an Athlon "...within an inch of it's life." If you get a Neopwer, beware as there are some lemons out there. I got one of them. If you get one, you're computer will reboot without an apparent reason. I RMA'd mine and haven't had any trouble since.

check out the Super Flower 550w 14cm fan version @ Directron.com

i have the 450w version, it's rock solid, and is very very quiet.

I think I like that Tagan 480W unit (same as the OCZ 480W PSU?).

both Topower

basic spec compliance with ATX12V v1.3 same with the ThermalTake

however the Neopower exceeds the ATX12V v2.01 specs
ThermalTake also makes a 680 that is compliant (likely just meets it, not exceeds it)
also check Enermax Noisetaker & Coolergiant Series

Compatible but not strictly compliant with ATX12V v2.0 and far exceeding specs
would be the PC Power and Cooling Turbo Cool 510 (600watt @ 25C) Express
but not exactly known as "quite"

Is the Neopower the only one that currently meets ATX12V v2.01 spec?

What's the difference between a v1.3 spec PSU and a v2.0 spec PSU? I know about the dual 12V rails offered on v2.0 PSUs, but what else?

So, I went with the Tagan, and if it doesn't power my system adequately, it will go in my file sharing box that currently has a generic helicopter-style PSU in it.

If my hand is forced, my next step will be an Antec NeoPower or PCP&C Silencer.

I know the Turbo Cool is amazing, but I've read reviews, and it doesn't sound quiet enough to keep me from smashing it.

the PC Power and Cooling Turbo Cool 510 is about 34db, not too loud but not the quietest psu on the market, they also have the silencer series of psu's that are much quieter....but you could always have PCP&P put in quieter fans in the 510 if you like, otherwise go with the Enermax units

To be honest, I would have gotten a silencer, but I really wanted things pre-sleeved, so I picked the Tagan, which performance-pcs.com had presleeved. Sounds like it might have been a mistake, I'll keep you posted about how it handles overclocks. Just for fun, I can stick 7HDs, 3 opticals, and some stuff on it if anybody cares to see where it fails.

I have a Tagan power supply and love it. Haven't heard the thing yet! I don't have as much stuff in my pc as you though.

PCP&C, Fortron, or Enermax. Stay away from Antec, TTGI, Thermaltake, etc etc
