i currently bought a 955 C3 with the wrong Mobo. the Mobo only supports 95W. Now im already irritated about this cause it was my fault.

I want to sell the 955 C3 on the forums and buy the 945 95W. is there a big difference in Gaming by switching.

I would change the mobo instead of the CPU since a mobo which only supports a cpu up to 95W won't handle overclocking well. There will be a big difference in gaming between a 945 running at stock clock speed and an overclocked PII X4.

Best thing to do is just swap mobos.....sell the mobo you got, or just save it and make a server if you get the money.......

what happened to the i5 rig !?!?!?!?!?!?!?

i do understand where you all are coming from BUT i am Broke as a joke and i really dont have the cash to ship the mobo back to Newegg. What about buying the AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition OEM and unlocking the 4th core? its only 100 bucks

a 720 would be a good substitute......and you should be able to get a nice chunk of change for the 955...id say im interested...but im broke ;P

im going to wait till tonight and see what my check brings in and make a finaly decision at that point.

well i made my decision. i sold the 955 c3 to a user on the forums and i ended up buying a x3 720. ive done alot of reading on the cpu and i hear its Great. hopefully i get one that I can unlock stable.

i know the board i bought has all the unlocking features acc and all that stuff wich i dont know really anything about yet. should be here monday so i wil let you guys know what happends

I do not recommend that unless you change the motherboard. When you overclock and unlock the x3 720 you will at some point go over the 95W anyways.

Remember all cores of the same stepping are made the same way with the same silicon regardless of their product number. The product number gets added to the chip during testing / binning. So basically they will use about the same power (defects will cause variation) if you run them at the same frequency and at the same voltage.

the 955 is already shipped. i will keep the 720. from what ive read its a great cpu even not overclocked. i wil lget a new board at tax time until then ill use the cpu stock. no big deal

An FYI, I have an old motherboard w/ a cap at 95w TDP, and an AMD P2 925, and I've successfully got it OC'd to 3.2 GHz. I was told this wouldn't work well due to going over the 95w, but it has been stable and no fried board (yet). If I were you I'd give OCing that chip a shot before accepting stock speeds.

well i wasnt going to stick with this motherboard. i just need it for 2 weeks. so using stock until then is not a big deal.
