I am building an new i7 box for encoding.
It will have an i7 920, 6 dimms DDR3, 4 WD6400AAKS, Bluray drive.
I would like to be able to put 3x GTX295's inside.

What kind of power do I need?

I was thinking like a Corsair 750TX or a PCP&C 750 Quad, but i have never had this much graphics power before and am not really sure.

I like the PCP&C and the corsair because they are single rail PSU's

For three GTX295s, I would recommend nothing less than a 1000W PSU. 6 GPUs use a hell of a lot of power. Some good options are the Corsair HX1000, the Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W and 1200W models, the Inwin Commander 1200W, and the Enermax Revolution85+ 1050W.

Is this a joke?

nVidia only supports up to 4-GPU's.

As for PSU, PC P&C 1200W, TT Toughpower 1200W (W0133), maybe that Ultra 1600W, although I have no experience with this.

In all probability you will end up using two PSU's, one way or another, perhaps a 1200W with a FSP X3 Booster.

But first you need to come to reality with nVidia software & drivers.

Best Wishes,
Dave

I think he's planning on using some (if not all) of the GPUs for Folding, not SLI.

OK, then we will take this seriously.

You are "probably" going to pull at least 800W+, almost all of it as +12V amperage so +12V@67A, let's say +12V@70A with NO OC'ing.

OC'ing can increase power draw about 10% to 30% & we always want a mininum of 30% overhead for cool & quiet operation. As you are going to have one hot box there let's make sure our PSU solution is rated at 50C.

Therefore we want a minimum of of about +12V@104A@50C

Folding Forever,
Dave:)

Danny is correct I guess I should have specified.
The gpus are for folding only, and driving my monitors.
I will be ocing my 920 to 4.0 because I also do my encoding on this box.

I can't justify spending 500 on a psu like the pcpc turbo cool 1200

What about 2 psus?
Also I can get a good deal on a pcpc 1000w but it would need to get new connectors.

what case are you going to use?, you can go with 2 Corsair 750TXs for better head room

See the recommendations I made in my post above. Any one of those PSUs will be sufficient for a folding box like this one.

Given the cost a pair of Corsair 850W, about $120 each or a TT (W0133) 1200W with a GPU Booster PSU,
is probably the most cost effective. I like the idea of a pair of $120 Corsair 850W's, myself.

Good Luck,
Dave:)
