I'm looking to get a power supply for a new build, I thought I'd be all set with my old corsair hx620 but my 6970 requires a 6 pin and an 8 pin power cable.

Build Specs:
x6 1090T
XFX 6970
WD Caviar Black 640x2 Raid
maybe an additional HD later for more storage

So far I have these two picked out;

Im pretty sure these are both modular and have the power requirements for the system and the connections for the 6970 video card.

let me know what you guys think
Thank you

Get a 6 to 8 pin adapter. Or use the molex adapters. No need to go out and buy a new power supply.

Newer revisions of the HX520 and HX620 came with 8-pin PCI-E cables. Why don't you try contacting Corsair support and see if they'll send you a cable?

That's a good idea about contacting Corsair about a new cable. This power supply is about 3 years old so I don't think it came with one. So ill email them and ask for one and even if I have to spend a couple bucks I'd feel better about it rather than using an adapter. XFX recommends not to use an adapter cable and to upgrade the power supply to a unit that already has the proper connectors.

ThankS for the info, you guys have been a big help :)

XFX recommends not to use an adapter cable and to upgrade the power supply to a unit that already has the proper connectors.

This is because many units that would require an adapter may not be able to handle a card/system like yours. The HX620 is plenty of power for your setup. Zero's idea of a factory replacement cable is great if they can send you one.

You could also PM Redbeard here on the forums. He's a Corsair rep.
