I am going to need a new Power Supply for the system i want to build.

Looking at a X2 4400+ will be over clocked
2GB Ram
3-4 7200rpm hard drives
7800GTs in SLI and i will likely over clock them too
Sound Card
2x dvd burners
A8N mother board
I want this thing to be able to handle all of this with ease...

Looking for a quiet PSU aswell. It will be in a P180 so cable managment is going to be key
Sleeved cables are a big plus...modular is nice but not a must at this point.

Yeah that is one of the ones i have looked at...

Also i've looked into:

Seasonic s12-500 (i heard the cables are rather short for this case.
Antec NeoHE 550 (Problems with A8N-SLI)
Antec TruePower II 550
OCZ PowerStream 600 watt
PCP&C 510 (a little on the expensive side, and loud)

Heard enermax noisetakers aren't too bad either

anything else i should be looking at?
out of what is listed what would be the best choice?

PcPower and Cooling.

But did you look at the enermax liberties like was suggested?

yeah i took a look at it, seems like a pretty good unit. Price isn't too horrid either.
I'll have to look for some reviews on it.

I think the choice is between the liberty and the powerstream...they seem to be close in price, and performace from what i have read.

any thoughts?

Yeah that is a nice plus, the powerstream offers rail control though...it's kinda a hard choice.

One thing about the 600W powerstream is that it has only ~20W(24 to be exact if im not mistaking) more on the 12V rail than the 520W model. Most of the wattage difference is in the the 5V rail w/c you don't need much in modern systems. So IMHO the 600W Powerstream is low in the bang for the buck category, but never the less its a very good PSU.

I would choose the Enermax Liberty or the Silverstones(strider or zues) over the 600W Powerstream. just my .02

FWIW i love my 520 Powerstream and i have 2 of these. So if you will pick one in the 500W range get the 520 Powerstream :D

PC power and cooling 510 sli!!!!
they're beautifully sleeved and power to spare.
a little on the noisy side, buy I air cool and Ive got so many fans it doesnt matter one little bit.
Plenty of molex and pci-e connectors to work with the A8N boards. I have lots of drives and have connectors to spare and never had to sweat cable routing. :D

This was one of my top choices...but the price, lack of modular cables, and very noisy fan ruled it out.

lack of modular is actually a plus not a con (order it to the length and number you want)
a guaranteed connection without added resistance and the potential for an "event"

fan noise is highly subjective, but in any event can be addressed to near silent if you so choose, the point here is that PSU manufacturers are constrained to offering a thermal solution within the confines of their own product, you arent, a duct some replacement fans and you can both increase the temperature differential and lower the noise signature while maintaining the static pressure and CFM

http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1027772301&postcount=2

but its the electrical characteristics of the 510 youd choose it for
wide VAC, 1% load regulation, 0.5mV p-p, amp figures are at 50C unlike anything else your comparing it to

well then...someone seems to know their stuff...but you failed to address one thing. Price.
It's still over 200. Which seems like a ton to pay.

Also changing out a power supply fan does not seem too fun. The whole shock thing, kinda don't make me want to do it.

I'm in the same boat, trying to figure out which ps to buy. After reading through this forum, I've got it down to three. I'm running a Asus P4C800-E Deluxe in a Antec case. I currently have a Antec 480 True Blue ps. I have the BFG 6800 Ultra OC, Corsair Extreme Hydrocool 200ex water system, a crap load of 80mm fans, and 4 hard drives. If I try to OC, I run out of power, causing all sorts of problems. Another factor is that I will keep this case, mb, cpu, and video for about 1 or 2 years. I will then upgrade. It would be nice if the new ps could take care of my existing power needs, but be ready for the future mombo :) Cable management is a big one for me, cuz a have the side window, oh and a blue tube light, looks killer. Anyways, based on the above info, and the following, which would you choose?

1st. 600W+ minimum clean power
2nd cable management/options
3rd Cost, actually cost really isn't an issue, but don't really want to spend over $200, maybe $250.

Thanks,

Steve

Avoid. 50A on the +5V is too much bloat, which also means the marketing idjits at TT have struck again.

Does TT put out anyting good anymore?
Their Big Typhoon CPU cooler is pretty darn good, and some of their PSUs are worth checking out... other than that, not really.

I recommend:

(1) PC P&C 510

(2) OCZ PowerStream 520

(3) Enermax 550

(4) Fortron/Sparkle 550

Get a "known good" PSU with a very powerful +12V rail.

Good Luck,
Dave ;)

ah yes i nearly forgot about the typhoon...that is a damn nice cooler. Other than that though, they have really put out some real crap recently.

Are the cables long on the Pc power and cooling 510 because I am thinking of
getting the Coolermaster 830 stacker plus I heard that the the Pc power and cooling
are lot quiter than before that makes them 10 out 10 for me

I agree all the way

I went with the ENERMAX ELT620AWT. Can't wait to install it. After all the chat, nobody ever had a bad thing to say about the ENERMAX ELT620AWT, and it sure seems to put out clean and sufficent power.

Did you really need the 620, after all it only has 2 more amps per 12 v line than the 400 liberty

Actually, the TWV500W is a good PSU and the TR2 line is actually made by CWT.

2-3 hard drives SLI and overclocking the shit out an opteron...yeah i want as many watts as i can get.

I use their Sonic Tower and I like it a lot. Their ThermalTake Armor cases (which I also use) are also great. Tt isn't really such a bad company

not a bad company but not a good one either...they publish a lot of bullshit ratings...e.g. their fans.

i think they are alot of better ones out there now.

The lastest ones are not noisy and modular cables are not good as everyone
thinks?

Both points are, as stated earlier, completely subjective.

If there was a definitive "too noisy" and a definitive "too much voltage fluctuation caused by modular interface" then nobody would make or sell them....

...except Aspire because they'd polish any turd and sell it for $100. :(

I wouldnt go quite that far
modular cables are the "in" feature one that has to be adopted or is viewed as drawback among most enthusiasts, thats not the same as saying its the optimum solution.

It does introduce an addition interface and resistance
when done well its negligable, but even when it is done well its doesnt preclude the eventual development of issues, like poor user connection, damaged pins, or simply getting snagged at the wrong time

thus you dont see a single enterprise class supply (rackmounts & N+1's) that sport them

One that I have heard alot of nice things about is the Hiper Type-R 580w Modular. You can find it Frozencpu.com for 119.00USD. Has nice rails, SLi ready(certified via SLizone.com) I like it because of the way the modular cables hook up via the other companies. But is completely up to you.
