My old 7600GT finally bit the dust, blew 5 of it's capacitors.

I have been out of the loop for awhile and this has always been the place I go for good advise.

These are the three I am looking at,

Let me say that I am a nvidia guy being I have never had a problem with an nvidia card and I don't care for ati's drivers.

But if the 4770 linked above is that much better then the nvida's linked above I'll give the 4770 a go.

Also will the pci express 2.0 be ok on my old DS3?

What do you guys think?

PICE 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.0 x16 slots so if that's what your mobo has you should be okay.

All 3 of those cards are about the same performance and will be a fine upgrade.

i love my 4770. as a 40 nm process it's power efficient, runs cool, and packs a lot of power for the price. these are the top 3 qualities i look for in my card. drivers have never given me problems. but not everyone thinks like me or has the same preference (unfortunately - jk lol).

since you like nvidia, i say go for the gts250. it is one step above the 4770 on tom's hierarchy chart on par with the 4850 and performs 15% faster than the 4770. it is a 55nm process so it is not as power efficient or as cool but that shouldn't be a big deal. the 4770 can be easily overclocked for a 10-20% boost but i personally don't care for overclocking.

i recommend the gts250 for you but i personally would go fishing on slickdeals for a week to see if a great deal comes up. i got my 4770 for $62 with bing cashback.

my opinion on video card purchasing: don't plan for the future. prices are dynamic and new products always come out. so just get what you need for now. for the same reasons, i always go bang for the buck. dx11 is out but as some have pointed out already, how many games fully utilize dx10 nevermind dx11? these are all of course, just my opinions only.

How about a GF 9800 GTX+? That fits the $<100 bill after rebate, and I doubt you can get a brand new card with better performance at that price.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have up to two weeks before I have the funds to get a card, until then I am stuck on my laptop.

It looks like any of the above cards I listed are good candidates as well as some good input by you folks.

I'll keep my eyes open over the next 2 weeks for the best deals.

just noticed if its a evga gpu why not have them rma it?

I did call evga last week about a rma for it.

I did register the 7600GT as soon as I got it, but evga said that, "registering it only extended the warranty from 1 year to 2 years, mine is a little over 3 years old. So it's out of warranty. They said because the part number had a "TX " in it there was no lifetime warranty on my card.
