In my house we have very soft power. When things kick on like the A/C or other larger drawing devices our voltage drops a lot. Our voltage in the house is low anyway. My UPS on my computer reports usualy around 112 -114 Vs. and when things kick on the power drops under 110. We have a external tape backup rack that are very sensitive to voltage and I need ideas on how to keep them powered. Ive tried a couple UPS's with AVR. and havent fit the bill. Ive alwasy used belkin UPS's and have had very good results on computers, but they cant handle this. My belkin when voltage drops to 110 will kick it up to 130V and hold it there. I woudl assume if the voltage went down even more, it would get closer to 120V, but I know when like the A/C compressor turns on in the house, the lights blink and get dimmer, and the UPS reads around 108V input, and it kicks it up to 130. The backup system if its running does not like running on either of the voltages. When its @ 108 errors will crop up, and when the belkin would switch from 110 to 130 I woudl get errors. So this is very senstive to voltage. Ive tried a couple Context UPS's I got @ Compusa for a good price, and they act the same. I never hooked them up to a computer to monitor them, but I would assume they either A let the voltage drop too much. or act the same as the belkin. I set them to the sensitive setting for voltage, and it doenst seem to help. I had a old APC UPS w/o AVR that worked only cause I had it set to go on battery very fast. so that it got 120 volts most of the time LOL. Anyone have any ideas on what I could do.?
