I got a SpeedStream right now and I've found out that it's the cause of my lagouts during CS. I need a new one. What should I get Linksys, D-link, Netgear?

I personallylike d-link never had a problem with them. Linksys I had nothing but miserable failures. Netgear I heard are realy good, although I never had experience with em.

I'd go with a linksys. I have just seen too many netgears with high latency in their low end switches.

D-link is utter crap. Netgear is only slighty better. Linksys's fairly recent equipment is made with Cisco technology. Why go with anything else? The Linksys line far and way is the overall favorite for home networking equipment.

I have gotten two Linksys Router/switches this year with Cisco Logo on Main panel. no problems at all.
excellent SO FAR.....whos to say what happens in a month or two though?

Damn the only thing is I hear that Linksys sucks ass sometimes. I get so many different opinions from people. On GotFrag people generally say Linksys sucks, D-link is best, and Netgear is alright.
How the hell am I supposed to decide.

Also I want a wired router. I don't want wireless...keep that in mind.

One more thing, I want one with four plug in things on it...so could you guys tell me which model number I should be looking for on the Linksys/D-link?

Linksys BEFSR41

Worked like a champ for me for several years till it got replaced with a Cisco 2514. Now it's only a backup in case I narf my 2514.

I just installed the netgear fvs-318 (router, firewall, vpn),
$108 (newegg). I didn't know what to get, either the Linksys
or Netgear so I used process of elimination to help me decide.

I don't need VPN
I need a firewall
I need better security
I need many ports

The 'equivalent' Linksys seemed to spec better for VPN but lacked
the 'extra' security, so the Netgear won the round. The install was flawless
and the firmware upgrade was simple. Download the file,
then let the router GUI upload/install the file. /done

Well I wanna spend like around $40 since that's what the D-link 604 costs. I'll go a little over/under depending on what brand I finally decide on.
I don't need all the bells and whistles. Just a router that won't make me lag out every 15 minutes like this crappy SpeedStream.
