First post:), so got to say this is an awesome board and glad I found it. I´m trying to get out of the stone age of my 5year old Pentium4 PC to something new with room to expand in the future. Been looking around this site and seems like I got a good build with the possible exception being monitor since I am very confused after trying to read as much of the Display forum as possible heh.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming with some video encoding.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
About 2k before tax/shipping. Will try to get most of it at microcenter if possible.
3) Where do you live?
CA.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.

So I have about 300 to spend on a monitor. In the next few months going to grab a ssd along with another tb drive and maybe another 5870. I might buy a 5970 now though depedning on availability also. Any comments and monitor suggestions would help. Thanks.

What features of Win7 Pro do you need?

For a 24", I'd stick to a single card config, and as such, drop down to an i5 750 for $150 at MC. Also, drop the TP-750 down to either the 550 or 650. Oh, and switch to a 4GB kit also.

The H50 is on sale for $55 @ Fry's right now, btw.

You can save some cash with the HAF922 for $100 shipped. Or the Storm Scout for $60 at MC this weekend.

Which SSD are you planning on getting? Hopefully, its either Intel or Indilinx based. ;)

EDIT: Oh, and the HAF932 is under $100AR at Fry's this week.

Was thinking if I missed something and guess I did. I eventually want to go to a eyefinity 3 monitor setup just don´t have the cash atm, should be able to get the rest of the gear buy the summer or earlier depending on how much I can keep from spending on other things. I want to keep the i7 but the hd looks good, and ya hoping in the next few months we get some nice deals on intel ssds.

Ya I saw all those deals but I´m stuck in costa rica for 2 more weeks which is when I´ll be buying my rig.

For the monitor, I would recommend the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA if you can afford it. It's the only sub $300 22" IPS panel available. I'm in a hurry, but if your interested you in the monitor you should google around for some info regarding current promotions and deals. A few weeks ago people were snagging them for $212 + tax + shipping.

If you are unfamiliar with LCD panel types (ie. IPS vs TN etc) you should definitely do some research there before you make a purchase. TN panels are garbage, in my opinion, unless you dont care / dont need to care about accurate color reproduction.

Edit: Although I should mention, if gaming is really your main priority TN panels can provide faster response times.
 
Ya I heard about TN vs IPS but most are pretty expensive, I might go with the dell or just suffer through with my 17¨ monitor for a bit to save up more money for a larger one. Still got a few weeks to decide or might be some nice deals soon.
 
Goto a store and look at the different between the two panels and see if the 50% increase in price is worth it for you.
 
Do you know anyone who has a valid university e-mail? If so, you can get the Windows 7 Pro for $30, saving yourself about $100.
