Hey guys/gals...long time no see/talk/post.

I'm still running the case in my sig; at least I think it's in my sig. The guts have changed a few times and currently I'm running a Cooler Master 212 EVO heatsink. But, I'm switching to a smaller case as I'd like to put my rig on my desk. So, I bought an el-cheapo HEC case and turns out, my heatsink doesn't fit in the case.

The interior dimensions of the new HEC case are 6" high (It's an HTPC case as I'd like my rig on the desk), so I'd like a cooler that fits inside of a 6" case.

Preferably with a 120mm fan but I suppose an 80mm fan will be ok. It's for an AM3 socket.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT

No, the case is not in my sig, it's a Chenbro Gaming Bomb 2

No? No one has any suggestions?

Ok, how about the Zalman CNPS-9900 Quiet? Any good? It'll fit in my new case.

see if the xigmatek hdt-sd964 fits your case. It served me well for several years on a heavily overclocked q9550 and its still holding its overclock since 2008 in my dads home office.

It seems like it'll fit but Newegg nor Microcenter carry it. Any idea where I may be able to procure one?

Measurement from top of CPU to case would help.
Evo is 159mm/6.3 inches tall
6 inch case would seem to require a 5.6 inch/142 mm max height.
The LOKI is about the best low cost tower cooler with 92mm fan, about 5.3 inch/134 mm.
Cooler Master GeminII S524 105 mm tall but very large.

Thanks Tourist, I've been looking at reviews like crazy. I'm not too concerned about the noise, when I had my Chenbro loaded up with 120mm fans (7 in all) it literally sounded like a jet engine.

I also wasn't sure where they took the measurements from, I was taking them from the motherboard, then the tray. I didn't realize they were from the top of the proc.

So, if I look for a cooler that's 5.6" then it'd fit in the case. The new case measures at: 17.25"W x 16.80"L x 6.10"H.

Would the Loki or the GeminII S524 be better?

The case I picked up is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811121010

It's a cheap HTPC case. Nothing too fancy but I didn't want anything fancy. Just something that'll sit on my desk. It does however have a detachable tunnel that I was considering throwing out but if I get the GeminII S524 I could probably utilize the tunnel in some capacity. I'm also liking the GeminII S524 a little better than the Loki.

In fact I was originally going to get the GeminII M4 but now I'm torn between that and the S524....

I was between the Gemini and the xigmatek too back in 2008. They perform very similar with the downward cooling of the geminii being good for the motherboard components. Cannot remember why I chose the xigmatek exactly maybe it was tall heatspreaders or something :( but I was happy with choosing the xigmatek. I see that this model may be discontinued so I guess the Loki would be the newer version of the xigmatek.

Geminii M4

Bought one of those Chieftec cases to build an all-in-one and switched from the EVO to the M4. Lovely little cooler.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up with the GemII S524 as well as a Vantec Tornado and two small off brand 60mm fans. The new case is all finished but I do have to say, I expected the Tornado to be loud, just not this loud. I need to get rid of it. It's too loud.

Does anyone know of any 80mm fans that are a lot less noisier than the Tornado but also move quite a bit of air.

As for the case itself. I do want to do a bit of modifying, especially above the S524 because there are two small vents above it but I'd like to make them a bit larger. I also may add one 92mm mm to each side of the case so I can have to more air going into it.

Here's a pic of the components installed.

Few things I need to fix are I need to get rid of two hard drives, they are old Maxtor drives , I'd like to get another WD Blue Caviar. And there is nothing I can really do about the wiring. I'm not very good at wire management. Also, sorry the pic is so large.

You did a good job getting the GemimII S524 in, I know how tight it can make a case feel.
Looking good.
Wire management is limited by cases like this. Without space behind the motherboard and openings there is little choice.
I find every time I have to remove parts and reassemble a case it may get better. lol. Modified an old Centurion case to learn to modify a case, kept making changes.

Do not know how much air you expect an 80 mm fan to move quietly.

Thermalright and Phantek make excellent and quiet larger fans

I tried a Vantec 80mm too, much too loud!
