Need a new HDD...please help!

I just switched to a Maxtor Maxline III 300Gb and it is not only quiter than my Raptor 74Gb but it seems to allow my gaming to run a little more smoothly. I have no idea if it has to do with the 16M cache or NCQ, maybe neither of both. In any case, I highly reccommend the MaxLine III drives. I am currently using an ASUS A8N-E board with NF4 ultra chip.

On another note, I did just have a Diamondmax 10 die, but it was under warranty and Maxtor sounds like they are going to cover my loss.

i have the same one except mine is 200 gb one and its perfect. u wont be sorry u got it.
 
Most of the reviews of the 7200.8 show it being, at best, a disappointment performance wise, falling behind other 7200RPM/8MB buffer drives. This means it will be nowhere near the performance of a 16MB Maxtor. They will be roughly equal (essentially inaudible unless you are right next to the drive) in terms of idle noise, as they both incorporate FDB motors. Seek noises will probably be quieter on the Seagate, and it ships with a 5 year warranty, 2 years greater than the Maxtor's 3. Also, the Seagate is cheaper, but you can see that ;)

The Seagate does have some advantages, but none of them are the one that counts most: performance :D Get the Maxtor.
