Finally looking to move my server to a rack mount case, from the Corsair 750D it currently resides in.

Looking for input on rack mount cases that will fit a SSI EEB (I have a Gigabyte GA-7PESH1), with EVO 212's on it. So was thinking a 4U? I have not settled on a rack at this time. The new location will end up being in a closet in the office (Louvered doors), so sound is a slight concern but not massive, quieter the better.

Currently I have 7 drives, with the intent to add another 6+ within the year (powered on an HP P420 at this time), thinking possibly a drive chassis? New to the whole rack mount case options, thanks for any opinions.

I would look at the Supermicro line of file server chassis first. Supermicro make very good file servers and will accommodate large mobos. Secondly have a look at Chenbro options (similar quality to Supermicro). If you are on a tight budget then look at Norco lineup. FYI file servers are notoriously loud because of the smaller fans (usually 80mm) spinning at high rpms. You probably don't want a file server to be located close to your work station unless you can accept the sound of a blow dryer 24/7. Also note that rackmount server chassis have limited depth between the mobo and the chassis top panel which makes for limited cooling options. Most pc cpu coolers won't fit in a rackmount chassis (just google and you will find plenty of discussions/solutions on the subject). If your file server is for business/mission critical use probably best to order a prebuilt or refurbished server from a reputable supplier.

hop on ebay, get a supermicro case... 4U will give you 24 bays... not really quiet though...

if you want quiet just get a generic norco style case and replace the fans
