what can i expect from a setup with the following:

e 6550 or 6420
2gb Ram ( no idea what speed to get, 800 at least)

id like a decent overclock in the near future. Ill be doing a ton of video encoding stuff, this box is mainly gonna be my media PC once a tv is purchased. Until then, itll be my primary machine for a good while, so i want a good strong CPU.

i understand everyone like the 4xxx series in media PCs. They sound like decent chips. I just wanna spend a tiny bit more money and get a 6xxx series.

what kinda OC can i expect out of the two processors (6550, 6420)? what ram from the Egg would you all suggest, 2gb plz.

3+Ghz probably easy minimum almost any noob can do.

3.1-3.3Ghz average

3.4-3.6Ghz lucky

3.6++Ghz if you know what you're doing, have a good chip, and good set up.

the 6420 & 6550 both should be decent steppings, but both are bottom bins currently,
so you could get a dud.

both of those chips will do 3ghz+?

if thats the case, what are the multipliers of each chip? ill probably spring for the 6550 just to get what i want :)

how does this look? i already have the PSU, and its nice and quiet. i thought id include it on the build though just so everyone knows what i have. I have everything else for the build as well.

If you wanted to split the order up, you could get an E6750 from Mwave for ten dollars more than the E6550 from.. I think that's a Newegg checkout screen.

thanks kramer, i was acutally just looking at that as you posted. And yes, other order is newegg.

only thing is, i need this all by friday this week. Never ordered from mwave, not sure if they are that fast.

e6550 all the way best bang for the buck e6750 is not bad either ...look at how my e6550 did....and to think all my help came all from the posters as i dont have experience in OCing

iseed how do u like the gigabyte board? im going with its little brother with the g33 and x3100

so far im impressed on how stable the BIOS and Chipset drivers are... build quality is superb worth the money imho
