To preface this, I am helping a friend out. To this end I know computer hardware and what not, but I have never been much of an audio person....at all. He recently bought a MacBook Pro and has an external audio device (M-Audio Fast Track Pro) that came with Pro Tools SE. He is using a midi device (AxiomPro 49) to feed into the audio device.
That being being said, he is having trouble with freezing and skipping while try to mix/record live audio. Now I don't know whether PC or Mac is better here and I'm not looking to start a flame war about it, but since audio is out of my realm I'm looking to you all for some help and possible direction. Are these products good? Should he go with a PC instead and maybe there is better audio software to use? Long story short he is trying to break into the DJ business (he has decent money, I don't question his hobbies). Thanks in advance to anyone that can help out!

Apple MacBook Pro
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E2620)
2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB of Ram
500GB Hard drive
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT650M
USB 3.0
External Midi Controller: AxiomPro 49
Works as a keyboard/synthesizer controller for the audio software.
All audio hardware/software is Avid.
External Interface: M-Audio Fast Track Pro
Works as an external audio card for guitar/microphone inputs and headphone, RCA and Digital output.
Internal Software:
Pro Tools SE
Basic bottom end version of the full software (Pro Tools 10).
