so.. ive never had multiple drives till now. As of now i have a 120gb sata, and a 300gb ide. i recently formatted for the first time since i installed my second drive. Now, im sure there is a perfectly good explination for this but.. windows wouldnt boot without the windows disc in my drive until i reset my bios to its optimized defaults, and manually put my settings back in.. Im sure that my problem has to do with the way my HDD's are hooked up.. so my question is.. With the sata being my system drive, and the IDE being my storage drive.. how should they be hooked up? and what should the jumper settings be?

so i found out why i had to load op defaults to get into windows. It was because i didnt have my storage drive as first boot priority. THIS tells me that i definately have something hooked up wrong, so what do u guys think? one sata (system) and one ide (storage), how should they be hooked up, and what should the jumper settings be?????

Check the BIOS settings for "Hard Disk Boot Priority" (this field is used to select the boot sequence of the hard drives). I'm guessing the BIOS defaults to IDE ... select the SATA drive and hit the + key to shit it to the top of the list.

OK ... you already checked this ... hmmm.

when i make the sata the first priority that is when i get the disk boot failure error when trying to load windows.. in order to get it to go into windows i have to make my storage drive the first boot priority.. whats my problem?!

Take a look at the root of your SATA Drive and see if you find the NTLR and boot.ini system files (you may have to change your folder view settings to see them) ... I'm betting they are on the IDE drive.

Check which drive the "boot.ini" file is on.
This drive is your boot drive.

It sound like Windozes has put all the boot files on your IDE drive.
Thats the main reason I only have one drive connected when installing Windozes.
With more than one drive, the boot files may not go where you hope they will go.

My fix is just to disconnect all other drives and re-install Windozes over the top of the existing copy.
This updates the boot files but keeps your data & drivers ok.

Luck ............:D
