What i'm looking for is a new case that I can mod for the first time. I'm looking for a FULL-TOWER with lots of room to expand with water cooling etc. I've looked at Lian-Li but the pirces are rather high. Basically i'm thinking of getting a plain case and make it unique :) .


Also I was wondering how hard it would be to build a computer case myself, out of aluminum. Has anyone actually done this and have plans or specs/advice?

Stacker. Best investment ive ever made. Nearly the exact same size as the pc 70, but slightly wider. You can easily mount rads, without modding ti more than a few screws i could easily fit:
2*80 in the back where the second psu would go
3*80 or 2*120 in the floor vent
2*120/3*120 in the front of the case, would depend how many hard disks you wanted. theres room for a 2*120 rad in the top with the power supply there, or you could easily get a 3*120 in if you didnt mind using the bottom power supply mount.
 
Hey, how about one of these ?? :eek: LOL J/K!!

The best ones I can recommend (and what I built my first system in, btw) would be one of these (bottom 4 on that page). They run from $85 to $90, depending on the color. Easy to use, great quality (drive rails for 5.25" drives, and removeable cages for 3.5" drives), and so much room that you could rent out the extra space above the power supply to a needy college kid!! :D
 
I'm definately leaning toward either the CoolerMaster one or the Aopen...I would consider the Chieftech one if I new that the front bezel wasn't plastic or that I could change it with metal.
 
id say the chieftec is the best bet. im guessing you can replace the front bezel with metal, ive seen some mods where people cut part of the front bezel with like some mesh or chicken wire and it looks real good. i actually know you can replace the front bezel with metal, but youd need to make it yourself, because my friends dad, who has this case, and doesnt have a job, spent like mad hours making a metal bezal for this case. and its probably the cheapest real FULL TOWER case out there.

How would you go about making a bezel, like machining it out of one big aluminum peice with the CNC machine? that would be cool :)
 
I built my own case. I used 1/2 alluminum channel to build a frame and used plexiglass for the panels. Was easy to do, built to any size you want (mine is 36" x 24" x 12") and is transparent. It wound up costing around $80.

A little advice offthehook, don't mention Thermaltake in this forum. I don't have a problem with Tt, but most people here hate Tt. Thought I let you know before you got trashed by the members.
 
It all depends on how much money you want to spend, if you are a case modder like me (someone who wants to make a good looking case with a VERY low budget) then find a cheap, offbrand case that will run you about $30 dollars. Dont get me wrong, you might be one of those people who put extensive planning into your work, but, you might not be. But if you are on a lox budget and dont plan on putting that much money into your mod the $30 case is a good idea incase you mess it up beyond the point you want to continue, you wont be mad at the fact you just messed up a $90 case and will have to go buy another $90 case/pay the money to repair it to the point where you can continue.

If you are planning on putting a lot of money in this and aren't worried about replacing a $90 case should the need arise then disregard this post altogether ;)
 
If I buy a $90 case then I will use extensive plans and i'll make sure that everything is capadable. Although i'm not the best dremeler in the world, only time I use it is in IT class, cutting lexan etc, no metal.

As far as building a case goes...I don't think I want my case completely clear, so i'll just add a window in somewhere. I looked into making a bezel from aluminum on a CNC machine but it looks like my schools machine won't cut it. :mad:

Anyone seen a Counter-Strike logo on a window...As I am stuck to CS:S it would be pretty cool to get a window design to match my passion. :cool:
