Needs to support my overclocked opty170 and 7900GTX with 9HDS. Don't think my draw is over 400W.

Thanks,

Slavearm

Theres cheaper ones out there.. but APC has been more reliable than any other that ive used.

I highly recommend APC, you really don't need a 1500 VA unit like the other poster mentioned. Go to apcc.com and use the configurator to see what size best fits your needs.

Any less expensive options, or is APC about the only way to go?

I have a belkin right now, thats only because i wasn't able to purchase the apc 1500 when my last job liquidated, but yeah, apc is the way to go

Thanks for the input guys. I always use APC in the datacenters I work with, but didn't know if there was a less expensive solid alternative for Home Use.

I was also lookig at getting a UPS. Anyone ever heard of PowerWare? Are they any good? Looking at the APC i see that it comes with some power management software. Is that required, or optional?

Go with APC, its worth the extra amount when it comes to your computers safety and they have a very nice warranty on your protected components.

I would not recommend anyone using APC products below the SmartUPS series. The ones below that are trading soley on APC's name.

Tripplite, Liebert, are good brands. Most important feature to look for is AVR.....don't bother buying one without AVR.

Thanks I'll look around for ones with AVR. I just thought that maybe PowerWare was a good brand because the university I attend has a huge PowerWare UPS. The ones I have found seem to be somewhat more expensive than other brands though.

PowerWare is a pretty good brand as well...I have worked less with them than Tripplite and Leibert though. I kind of glanced over that in my haste to correct the buy APC cheerleading.

I have a APC 1500. It may be too much, but I figuer if I ever need to plug in a second comp to the unit that I will still have more than enough power.

Well I went and looked at Tripp Lite, Leibert and some PowerWare UPSs. One thing that I noticed is that Powerware and Leibert advertise that the batteries in their units can be replaced when they go bad but I didnt see anything about this on Tripp Lites website.

Spectre - Do you know of any Tripp Lite units that have this feature? Also I was thinking about getting a rackmount unit. To bad this unit isnt rackmountable with out that shelf. :(

If you have any other buying tips or suggestions I would gladly take them. :)

I bought my bro a cyber power and it looks as if it came out of the same mold as the equivelant APC unit. I think the 1500 may be a little over kill for your system. Depending on what all you want on battery backup also depends as well. I am guessing monitor and pc if power were to go out so you could safely shut it down so I think around a 1000VA unit should do fine. Mind you I am no UPS genious or anything.
