Need a Flight sim

If you want realism then nothing beats Falcon 4.0. It's more of a simulator than a game. If you can handle flying a one-hour long CAP mission, do no shooting, and RTB, then it's a game for you. If you are looking to blow things up, then look for something else.

It's a twelve-year old game with a big modding community but its real time campaign mode and realistic avionics have yet be surpassed today.

would this help me learn to eventually fly a real plane? any suggestions on that front?

Will have to try out LOMAC. Falcon 4.0 was a bit too much for me, though I wouldn't mind taking another stab at it now that I'm an "adult" with supposedly more "patience." Thanks for the recommendation guys.

If Falcon was a bit much, LOMAC won't be any better. They're both hugely time-intensive

thanks guys ill look into all of these, as far as a controller is concerned is:

No fucking argument.

If you want Civilian Flight Training, then FSX and a Sim Yoke are the best way to go

You can find a lot of joysticks for 5% of their cost in a local salvatio army store

If you can fly in FSX you can fly a real plane. It covers everything - from weather to instrument-only flying.
In fact, I know I guy who was in flight school, and his first time in the cockpit of a plane, he told the instructor he plays a lot of FSX, the instructor let him have the pilot's seat without any hesitation. He shat bricks with excitement.

Best joystick ever made? How did I know I'd be looking at a FF2 before I even clicked on the link? Every spoon out there that thinks Battlefield 2 is a sim gushes over the FF2 but few serious simmers think much of it. It's a nice joystick and definitely a legend in the entry-level market but best joystick of all time? What a silly thing to say. It's like saying a Pontiac GTO is the best sports car of all time because your dad helped you build one when you were 16. No fucking arguments!!!

I do agree that the linked Logitech is an absolute piece of shit, however.

I must be old. I was expecting to click the click and see the old original 2-Button CH Flightstick w/throttle wheel.

I still fondly remember playing everything from Flight Sim 4 to Red Baron to Wing Commander to Tie Fighter with one of those.

Heck, I was even pretty good playing Test Drive 3 and Indiapolis 500 with one of those.

Check out Aces High II. It is online only, though you can practice flying and shooting offline. The learning curve on flying isn't as difficult as IL-2, but the flight physics are very accurate. The air combat learning curve is very steep though (like online IL-2). However, you can find a furball at any time, day or night in Aces High, and usually, some really good sized furballs.

Can't help with the stick. I've got a Cougar that's all worn out and needs hundreds of dollars of mods.
