This game is just retarded. But thankfully there is an easy fix. Now where can I found a good Doom 3 mod page that include a flash light patch you can switch on and off for all weapons? Would make the game so much more enjoyable.

theres a reason why your not supposed to have flashlight and gun at teh same time but whatever

Well I downloaded two patces from fileplanet. Nitro mod and flashlight for 4 weapons mode. But now my savegames are all weird? I start from the beginning of the level every time weither I save a lot so now I can´t play at all?

What´s up with that?

The game did get 10 times better with the flashlight mod that´s for sure.

Honestly, I havent played since I played for like 30 minutes with headphones and heard 'over here' as I walked down a hallway. it was dark outside and windy and I nearly shat myself. :(

I think it mentions that in the patch. If you try to load a savegame that you started before the patch, it will restart at the beginning of the level. When you get to the next level it should fix, or start over should fix it. Probably the first though.

okay but some other thing I suspect it change difficulty level since it got so god damn easy all the sudden? Is there anyway to switch difficulty level with a console command or something?

Its easier when you can see everything :D. That was part of the challenge and creepyness of the game I felt. It was REALLY dark, and you had to inspect all corners and everything before moving on, you never knew when something would jump out at you. I think if the lights were on the whole time, it would be a very different game.

As for a console command to change difficulty, no idea....

Really all it makes me feel is frustration. It´s still dark and when there is enemy at every corner what is it to be surprised about :). Honestly Doom 3 is much more enjoyable now more Doom like actually :) And it´s the sound that makes 90 % of the atmosphere I have found and it´s still dark enough :) But it would be awesome with a mod that let you turn it on and off and that has limited batteries would be a better system really. Because who on earth would believe a marine so stupid he doesn´t duct tape a flashlight to a weapon?

All I've found was how to turn on nightmare in the cfg file. I dont see anything in the listing for changing in the middle of the game. :(

Maybe he only has one flashlight, and couldn't decide which weapon to duct tape it to :p.

I too got annoyed at not being able to see anything. Actually I would like a mod that boosted the light levels of all parts of the game like 1000%, so that I could actually see everything clearly without a flashlight. I'd like to be able to enjoy the graphics that I keep hearing are so good.

Also, it doesn't help that my monitor is kinda busted and darker than it should be (even though I have brightness and contrast set to max on my monitor, I have to manually increase brightness in all games and stuff because of the broken monitor. I even increase it in Windows Media Player while watching tv shows and movies due to darkness levels).

Easy duct tape it to the shotgun. Then he has time to switch if the enemies are at long range. And if they are just upon him easy just pull the trigger :D

Kind of useless mod if they play with the difficulty levels I guess if I don´t find a mod I will just have to get a savegame from anyone else. The game is to damn easy on anything less than veteran.

I am simply amazed at how many people, in this forum and other forums, request / have to have a flashlight-on-weapon mod or have to turn the brightness up to max. It's sad how there are so many people who fear the challenge and/or fear the "fear" that is meant to be in the game.

Roger that.

While I agree with your last statement, honestly does it affect your ability to play the game in any way when he requests something like this? No? Then let the man do what he pleases. The game was meant to be enjoyed how the individual wants to enjoy it. So let them, don't lose sleep over it.

There was a thread on [H] that had a flashlight mod that people on here created. It was three guys. They were gonna work on a console thing to turn it on and off. I dunno what happened to that project...

Seriously I see this as game flaws. Like games like COD relieing on the quick save for some parts that is impossible if you don´t quicksave every 15 seconds. It´s the easy way out. Did AVP has this limitation? Was it as dark? Yet it´s more scary then Doom 3 ever was? Believe me if you have made it through AVP and AVP 2 on hard you aren´t getting freaked out by Doom 3.

And honestly the flash light mod still can´t see the monsters until they spawn behind you. And it doesn´t make the game any less intense. It just let you get passed some of the most glaring misstakes and let you enjoy the game more. Both the environment and the actual fps action.

Also no flash light on the weapons detracts from the realism since if you consider yourself a marine wouldn´t you stick your flash light to a weapon? Damn your weapons would have been premodded for that in the first place.

Me it doesn´t detract anything from the game quite the opposite. It´s not that much easier you just don´t have to hit the key to switch in between flash light and gun all the time. Makes the controls less bulky.

im not going to say this is necesarily true for doom 3, but i dont like it when people think the game is too hard so they use a mod or use cheats the beat the game and then complain that it was too easy.

ie: a quicksave mod in gamse which didnt have it, flat out using cheats etc.. Flashlight mod I didnt think the game needed it ,but i dont think it would take away that much from the game but i just played the game, didnt worry about crap like flashlight

I wasn't too afraid to have a challenge or the "Fear" in the game. I was annoyed that I couldn't see any of the good graphics I'm told this game has :p. Theres a difference. I beat it without any mods at all. No problem there. I'd just like to go through again and be able to see what I'm doing.

The game would have been better if you either didn´t have a flashlight at all or let you use it in a logical way it feels kind of an artificial way to increase the tension.

After you beat it on nightmare they should let you have the ability to turn all the lights on or all off and no flashlight. Now that would be serious fun heh, just ambient light and no flash light would suck big ones and be hard as hell. :D

I play it both ways, with and without the flashlight mod....it's a fun game, for about an hour at a time...

BUT, my take is this....even now, military weapons such as the shotgun, MP5, and larger pistols, have lights. For sure, in the future, on a military base, the smaller weapons/rifles/machine guns/pistols, would have lights. Especially in such a dark environment even BEFORE the power failed ;)

To each his own...I find it more "realistic" having the flashlight on with the pistol, machine gun, chaingun, and shotgun. And still damn hard without having to turn nightmare mode on if you play on the higher couple of skill levels.

*gets flame suit on* Far Cry still smokes Doom3 for my style and preferences. :D

TheRapture definiatly. Far Cry is the better game. Even the visuals are better not something I would have imagíned before with the legacy John Carmack has given us. But it sure is a beauty Doom 3 for sure even with lights on. And "gameplay" Far Cry is definiatly more varied and challenging. Doom 3 on veteran is a bit to easy even on veteran but then close corridor fps games there is just so much you can do. Especially with the monster AI Doom 3 has which don´t put up much of a fight.

But definiatly Far Cry beats Doom 3 in most aspects and goes square in others. Both are great games though and not a disappointment at all. Survived the hype quite well didn´t have the benefit of Far Cry not being so hyped before. You thought it could only go backwards with people complaining it´s not Doom and such. But it´s a very well made game with lots of work and sould behind it :)

I don't see how people are having sooooo much trouble with the darkness in Doom III. I never had a problem with it, ever, but I guess there could be some spots with the potential for it. You could probably run through the game without a flashlight at all if you had halfway decent aim and a small sense of tactics and still not encounter that much trouble.

That is one of the problem. You can´t aim if there is no light so it´s only luck and reflexes at some areas :) There is difference between little light and no light. But I think many wants to see some great graphics not all black :) But if there was just a bit more light you wouldn´t have to switch between the flashlight and weapon all the time that is why I use the flash light mod doesn´t make it less scary that you actually see what is attacking you

well mabye you realize the garphics suck without so much darkness? the textures are serioulsy ugly as ass in alot of spots.

I don't lose sleep over it. It's just sad that people can't experience the game for the first time, the way it was meant to be experienced.

Some talk of realism and such, and of course a marine could tape a light onto a gun, but that's not the point. Having to switch from the flashlight to whatever weapon, and maybe losing sight of whatever creepy thing is pursuing you, and having to maybe fire/attack blindly into the darkness, hoping you are hitting, hoping you will survive........... that is the point.

Also, to me, the way the darkness and shadows is used in the game is beautiful to me, just as much as the nice graphics that are brightly lit in parts of the game.

Well the shadows is very poorly done. Very sharp no soft shadows or anything so that was a bit of a letdown. But seriously the first hour I played without the flash light mod. Didn´t make it scary to me just frustrating. Then I installed the flash light mod. Just as scary but less frustrating so seriously it´s a function that serves no purpose. The darkness yes but having to switch between flash light and weapon no. The only drawback with having flash light consistently on is that you see how low poly Doom 3 is but still looks good the same way UT 2004 looks good. May not have the latest and greatest but are vell designed :)

Not pointing at anyone in particular here, but just another thought I had.....

People say they want or "need" a flashlight for this reason or that reason. However, if everyone who goes with the flashlight/duct tape mod was hooked up to a lie detecting machine and asked, "did you really get the flashlight mod because you were too creeped-out/scared to play without it?", I'd bet the results would be quite interesting.

*******************
Oh........ 1000th post, yee haw.

The main reason I'm so put off by the darkness is that A. You can't see mobs and admire the graphics part of it so much (I can't remember getting a real good look at any mob) and B. There's just so much of it. Any gimmick grows old after awhile.

I wish someone would make a 'Final Fantasy the Movie' style flashlight mod though. Remember in the begining the way the soldiers in the movie had that little flashlight modded on their helmet? It looks totally futuristic/Doom space marine.

.

I did play it through to the end the first time "the way it's meant to be played" :p ....then I loaded up the mod, and am currently replaying at a harder skill level...and since there are so many levels, I have forgotten alot about them so it feels almost new again in some places

I think the way sometimes you freak out and start letting out shots into the dark adds to the scariness of the game. Running out of ammo on a martian based with demons running amok... I think I'm wasting too much ammo in this game. Everytime I step into a room, I cap every dead body I see just to make sure it doesn't get up and backstab me. >=O
