Need a Display For An Xbox 360.

I am puzzled to decide between the Samsung 940BW 19" Wide-screen LCD 16:10 and the 21" CRT 4:3 monitor for the Xbox 360.

I will be jumping from 15" monitor, If i choose an Widescreen LCD, will i get bad picture quality as i have been hearing CRTs>LCDs in terms of Picture quality?

Decide which one is better for me, In 2008, i will have an LCD TV, very probably.
For this year, i have to select a 21" CRT or a 19" WS LCD Monitor.

Thanks. :)

How about a 20" monitor? You will have more nice widescreen choices in that size range, 20" to 22".

Eww. 500:1 contrast? 19"? Would you even get 720p on that?

Save your money for a 20" widescreen with better contrast. PLEASE. You may hafta suffer for now, but you'll be suffering for longer if you get those monitors.

Just a question though, how much were you looking to spend? That monitor seems to be $220. Was that how much you were looking to spend.

Tell us how much you were looking to spend and we might be able to find you a deal......

BTW, some of these may or may not have dvi. It doesn't matter (Unless you were planning on connecting to your pc as well, WHICH YOU NEVER SAID). You should connect the Xbox 360 to the monitor via the xbox 360 vga adaptor. It'll allow support for alot of things, including 720p, 1080i, and hi def dvds.

EDIT: You could try a 20" refurb dell 2007 wfp for $259: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/mes...eadid=682430&highlight_key=y&keyword1=2007wfp

This would have 600:1 contrast, not HORRIBLE, but still bad, but for $190 for 20", that is a great price, but watch out, rebate:

Willing to go up, dell 22" is $296:

$244.95, Viewsonic, 800:1 contrast, 5ms refresh rate, DVI/VGA, could hook it up to your pc as well as xbox 360 and have a great picture, I'd honestly go with this one:

Actually brothers, In my country, there is very less availability of LCD WS monitors so i can ONLY get 19" WS Monitor for $300

But i have $500 to spend on the monitor, availability is KILLING me.
HDTVs are expensive here so i will buy an HDTV next year (2008).

Which one to buy for that year?

19" WS LCD or 21" CRT?:)

I only have two choices

1: 21" CRT Monitor
2: 19" WS LCD

If u were to select from these 2, which one would u prefer to get?

whichever is cheaper.. then I would save for at least a 22"

Im in the same boat, i dont by any means want to thread jack but figure ill hop in one thread instead of starting anew one with basicly the same request
I got around 800 to drop on one, Lookin for a 32+" HD/HDMI display for my 360 and PS3
I know the $$ limit is goin to hurt choices
Suggestions?

Yeah, whichever is cheaper. But, if you don't mind the space than the 21" CRT can go higher in resolution and you can set your 360 at 1280 x 1024 which will be a higher resolution than that of a WS 19" at 1440 x 900. Plus, if the 21" is not WS then 1280 x 1024 should scale perfectly on the 21" monitor. There is no 1440 x 900 setting on the Xbox 360 so..it will stretch it to fill the 1440 x 900 resolution on the 19" WS display.

it's LVM-37W3
I got mine for $979 at Crutchfield a couple months ago, I'd heard of them being had for as low as $900

So its not just a comp monitor. its a TV, didnt know that
So its definately worth the 1K price tag?

It's a monitor, no TV tuner of any kind.
Which isn't a big deal IMO, because most people use cable or satellite anyway.

That said, it has every hook up imaginable, so you can use it for either or both.
I'm going to have mine connected to my PC as a secondary monitor incase I have some "content" on my computer I'd like to watch on the big screen.

It's definitely the best 1080P display under $1000.

Please, come back to the topic,
Need a few more replies to conclude!

21" CRT or 19" WS LCD?

I have a LOT of space in my room to put 21" or 22" monitor, but i am really curious about Picture quality of the monitors.

Now i have to choose from 2 things, i have to leave anyone of them

1: Best Picture Quality (21" CRT Monitor)
2: Widescreen (Samsung 940BW)

I also heard that all 360 games support 4:3 and 16:9 instead of 16:10.

Yep, Xbox 360 can be set to 4:3 ratio for non WS televisions. This is ideal for your older Xbox games that are in 480i or 480p.

I agree get the westy 37W3 I love mine

Qulzam, I have been doing a ton of research(20+HRS.) and i have decided that when i get the money for a samsung 940BW(or 941BW, same thing, just more cables) i will buy it very quickly. From everything I have read, if you want a monitor for the xbox, go with the samsung. I do not have one but with the reseach i have done, i might as well have built the thing, LOL. Anyway I am currently running my 360 on a 15" LG LCD and i have to say it looks awsome! seriously it looks better than my friends 52" sony plasma. Go with the samsung, you won't be disappointed. LCDs do a great job. GoW and Burnout, look AMAZING!

Ok brother BIGJ, but i think 21" CRT will provide such picture quality that no any LCD could.

So buying Samsung 940BW is ONLY for Widescreen, that will be a bit stretched.

I will use the monitor for this year ONLY, in 2008, i will have an LCD TV, so guide me whether to choose SAMSUNG 940BW 19" WS LCD Monitor or 21" CRT Monitor (Non-WS).

So what should i do?
Do all 360 games support 4:3?
If 19" WS LCD has the Width of 19" and 21" CRT has the Width of 18.xx" then how about BLACK BARS? Are these black bars a BIG issue for NOT buying 4:3?

Iam turning more towards CRTs.

In my opinion, DO NOT get a 4:3 LCD for your 360. The 360 was designed around widescreen. Yes it does do 4:3 but there are a number of annoying issues in many games with fullscreen mode. Just browse the official Xbox forums to see what I mean. Gears of War and Oblivion are particularly unhappy with 4:3. It'll work, but it won't be optimal quality.

Either get a widescreen LCD or go get a cheap fullscreen CRT for now. With a CRT, you can output widescreen (1280x720) from the Xbox, then just adjust the V-height on your CRT to create a letterbox image.

Ok, back again w/ more advise, I am currently running on a 4:3 LCD. Although it looks great, i am only utilizing about half of the screen. I have finally gotten gears of war to run full screen, and it doesnt look as good as wide. On burnout, it only uses about 9" of the screen, yes i am running on a smaller screen than the one you are looking into, but my point is that not all games will run on 4:3 and if they dont you will loose a lot of your 21"s, where as on a widescreen, 16:9, you will always use all 19"s of it. go with the samsung

Sorry, i meant 16:10, thats the mointors widescreen, where as a TVs is 16:9, my bad

There is a Dell monitor available, its 21" CRT, P1110

It has 2 VGA inputs, the width of a 21" CRT will be almost equal to that of LCD, if i can get same WS format, better Picture, No ghosting, but Black bars,

The only issue left with CRT Monitors is Black bars on Top and Bottom, now i just want to know if the black bars is the big issue for not going with CRT?

Hi, sorry to threadjack, is that the term, but for the OP I would say get the 204bw. I was deciding whether to get the 940bw or the 204bw and I'm so glad i got the 204bw. The difference in size is huge, esp when i went to see it at my local computer store. I know your asking if the Xbox360 will work on a 940bw but i'm wondering will it work on a 204bw? Any and all replies are appreciated!
