Back in the old Win98 days I used Ghost to save info on a hard drive that was going down. Couldn't beat it for ease of use and speed. Simply boot to floppy and copy. It doesn't work on WinXP systems I assume because it doesn't recognize the file system info. I desperately need a similar program that can do this with WinXP loaded hard drives because we have one going down here at work and need to save it. I know there are quite a few out there can clone/image but the ones I'v eseen thus far have to be installed on the OS prior. I really need something like the old Ghost where I can boot to floppy or even CD and make last minute save of a dying hard drive. FREE would be the best!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.


 
We've been using Acronis True Image with bootable CDs. (Not free, through.)

Linux based boot disk for just such purposes. I think I'm gonna d/l and burn a copy of it and play around... I need to backup my xp settings anyway... i binary image stored on the fileserver would be a reassuring thing to have.
