As the title suggests, I need an external usb 2.0 (or firewire I guess?) drive. I have looked on the egg and mwave etc and see alot of varations and I really don't know where the best bang for the buck resides.

Should I just buy an enclosure and throw a nice WD drive in it and be done?

I need the drive for storage and will probably only have it plugged into one of my machines when I need to back up and or store mp3's, photos and movies etc.
it doesn't have to be amazingly fast or amazing in that way. Just a nice good bang for the buck external drive for the things I mentioned. Oh and size, well I would imagine 250gig or better is fine. It doesn't have to be tremendous. 250/300 gig would be fine.

Thanks guys.

honestly.. ive used many different external drives.. but the easiest and cheapest way ive found.. is buying an external case and then buying the exact hard drive you want.. thats the one thing i dont like about buying external drives.. you are stuck with what you get.. so if you wanted to.. you could buy a cheapo 30 dollar or less external case and buy a WD black 1TB drive.. instead of getting stuck with the generic low end model 1TB and GP 1TB drives that come in say the WD mybook.. same goes with seagates choices and any of the other ones..

can get something like this..

or even something like this..

i use one of these.. not this exact model.. its actually a lower end one.. but they were great..

take a look here and it should give you some ideas on what there really is and what choices you have on stuff..
