Need a CPU Cooler

Silly me for thinking my E5-1650 had an OEM HSF that came with it...

Now I've got all my goodies but need a new HSF.

For the foreseeable future it will live in a tower case not a 1U or 2U, so I'm more open to cooling options that are not jet engines, and don't rely on case fans. (I will have case fans but not typical high rpm server fans blowing over the CPU)

I'd like to spend as little as possible while keeping this chip running as cool/safely as possible. If it came with an OEM HSF I would use that...

Suggestions?

If price is of concern then pick anything that is within your price range that fits the socket.

Hyper 212 is literally the best bang for the buck and is very cheap. Intel has some cheap options but I doubt they are very good for a 130w part.

you can probably grab a 2011 stock from someone here for cheap. I'm sure most who bought a 2011 replaced the cooler. :)
If the 1150 I just bought had the same hole spread I'd give it to you.

Trimlock - I have a NIB H100i, but just don't see the need for it on this server that's all I mean by price... I'd rather not spend more than is needed to cool it adequately.

The Hyper 212 is what I was looking at and leaning towards, probably snag one after all. The mobos I have won't support NVMe so it will never see 1U/server case usage, so I'd say I'm pretty safe sticking with the 212 for the life of the build. I probably have some Noctua or other fans I can use too if the ones that come with it aren't up to it. Sound isn't a concern, but again I don't want 5k rpm fans :D

SticKx911 - Intel has a $25 cooler but it's not rated for these new 6 cores (consumer or xeon), or I'd go that route. I also have a stock 2011 cooler from my old 3930k but it's not rated by Intel for these new generation 6 cores.

Thanks for the input guys your time and opinion is appreciated.

212 evo has really become kind of industry standard, now good unit/price etc...but still pretty adequate similar cooler for same price or even less, same 120mm fan style but other coolers heatsink is larger etc,

With air imo better off going with a higher end/biggest heat-sink you can fit in your case/clearance on your board etc...bigger units start helping cool off everything board/Vrms etc so that's a big plus, just more surface area/easier to dissipate heat etc imo.... design as well is questionable, usual tower coolers tend to create more pockets/dead spots for heat to loaf around imo..vs like the nicer top/down/blow down 120mm units I like them because think they cool board/vrms a little better...but hell just as easy to get some better/higher cfm case fans/or like antec spot fan to stick on chipsets/ram/vrms. I noticed drastic temp drops doing that....

Considering the server (1u/2u) solutions are 30-40$ and can run up to 8,000 RPM I think the 212 EVO will be the ticket for a tower case, and keeping it a bit quieter :D

yeah I know what you mean xD can't stand damn loud ass CPU/Case fans...but sometimes just have to deal with it because you kinda need at least 1 high speed/cfm rear exhaust and most are loud 20-30db+... then I put two more 120mm 40-55cfm exhausting through the top in this mid tower case, and same with two intakes...I wanna find a damn dual/120mm radiator that isn't too damn big/wide to where I could fit in the top but most dimensions/inlets not quite right so pretty much modding/start cutting the case up for clearance/room for hoses....some of these prebuilt/package liquid cooling solutions damn inlets/fittings/hoses too small choking off radiator/heat transfer imo etc and water blocks look wimpy/not big...pumps dieing etc.....

unless you go liquid/water a lot of aftermarket options/configurations there, sure can get pricey real quick though.....

this would go on the piledriver build coming of course 8320/ASrock 970 fatal1ty, its like damn these boards have it looks like some pretty significant clearance issues with a big air unit hitting mosfet heatsink/NB heatsink /ram etc.... guess that's one thing I'll miss with R2gene plenty of clearance, for big coolers, pretty sure when my old Xeon w3520 smoked itself it kinda screwed up this board....BIOS/CMOS has reset itself like 10 times since this happened rofl, ram issues/dead slot...can't OC the old good 920 not stable/ graphic issues/artifacts now...yeah....rofl

and believe me yes I came very close to going Haswell/Z97 didn't/wasn't about to pay for haswell i5/i7 ridiculous prices and i3 dual cores are all single thread vs Piledriver 8320/8350 will destroy it in multithreaded applications/tasks, pretty much xD
