Need a cooler recommendation.

So I recently bought parts for a new computer and decided to look for a decent cooler which I could replace the stock cooler with.

The particulars are:

Using an Antec 300 case, for a phenom II x6 1055t, and if it matters a ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 Mobo.

Any good Heatsinks you could recommend for this?

What exactly are you going to be aiming for? Light overclock or something more drastic?
I don't really know how much room you'll have in that Antec 300 but...

The Coolermaster Hyper 212+ seems to be a favorite among many and won't force you to sell any organs. The Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B comes to mind as well. It is on the less expensive side but has a shitty mounting system from what I've read.

Also, look into the Thermalright Venomous X and Prolimatech Megahalems, although both of these require a separate mounting bracket for AMD boards (+$10) ontop of the already pretty expensive cost. Even better would be the Cogage Arrow or Noctua NH-D14. Both are quite large but perform the best out of the ones I've mentioned.

I've been looking into this for the last week or so since I am just getting around to building a new AMD system as my main. Definitely leaning toward the Noctua NH-D14, it is on the pricey side though ($80+) but does come with two decent fans.

Of course, these aren't the only ones but these are the ones which stand out most to me. There is, as always, the Corsair H50 as an honorable mention that will not put major pressure on the board in any way nor will it compromise using ram with taller heatsinks. It can also be silent compared to the others if you put higher RPM fans on the above HSFs.

Hmmm interesting, I am not sure how much room I have either, seeing as I just got the case :) Basically I am trying to max my cooling without breaking the bank (I know everyone wants to do that really) :). I'll look at the CM hyper 212 thanks for the recommendation, been seeing both pros and cons about it. As far as OC'ing I'm not looking for breaking records or anything, some light OC'ing where possible would be ideal.

As an aside, how is the CM rifle cooler? I've seen it recommended but not seen too much about it.

I really think that most "medium-end" coolers like:
Coolermaster Hyper 212+
Scythe Mugen 2 rev B
Xigamatek Dark Knight/HDT-S1283
Gelid Tranquillo

Any of these will do just fine as they are much better than stock and will net you some cooler temperatures, for sure. It mostly all boils down to how much you are willing to spend, noise level, and how much room you have in your case.

I've never heard of the Tranquillo before looking around on Newegg (I know - it's just research :p) to get a feel for what's available at certain price points and it seems to actually do quite well.

Corsair H50. It will fit any case that has a 120mm fan exhaust.
I've tried the Mugen. It was a pain in the butt to install.
Prolimatech Megahalem performs WAY better and mounts like a breeze. Problem is that it is BIG, so I don't know if it will fit your case.
 
I just picked up a Corsair H50 from best buy last weekend on sale for $60. It's awesome. Totally silent and I have my i5-750 clocked at 3.8ghz: temps are 42c idle and 61c full load. Ambient temps are rather warm, about 28c.

I was a bit of a skeptic for a while, thinking I'd rather just pick up a full water cooling kit, but after going from an enormous, high-performance heatsink from scythe, I was really happy with how easy the install was with the h50 as well as the mammoth amount of room I got back in my case. Most of what pushed me over the decision was the damned push-pins I had to use with the old heatsink, honestly.
 
i've had a lot of heatsinks in my day, and the amd heatsinks ALWAYS get the short end of the heatsink stick(worser mounting plate, attention to mounting plate for AMD is always an afterthought, pay extra for AMD mounting plate).
So being p'o'd about the thought of heatsink guys making me buy an AMD adapter when it should be included got me fuming. However i dropped money for the venonmous X cuz there was a say on ewiz (for 50bucks i think). Then i found the adapter for 10bucks and free shipping on amazon (this adapter is 8-10bucks, but everywhere you try to buy from ppl will charge you 8bucks for shipping).

This is the best heatsink i have ever installed. omg so simple, just screw in and it fits fine plus it won't slip off cuz theres this big hole in the heatsink/ for the adapter type deal. felt just as good when i used the zerotherm for my core2 setup (cuz of the bolt thru kit).

to me it feels small, so i thin ki'll fit, heck i've had 2lbs of coolermaster heatsink once, now that still fit a tiny case.
