Need a convert-to-wma program

Sure. The suggestion is not to do it.
They are both lossy compression. Transcoding from one lossy format to another is an excellent way to make audio sound like crap.
 
yeah cept I need to convert some mp3s to wma so your suggestion doesn't help
 
If for some weird reason you need WMA, the wothwhile way I know of is to rip the original CD using windows media player.
 
dbpoweramp can do it. Also, if you have XP, download the Plus pack for Windows Media Player 9, It includes a MP3-WMA converter and its free.
 
Just curious, but why do you need to do it? As GMC implied, you'll get terrible sound quality, so I'd avoid it unless:
1) you hate music, and wish to play a cruel joke on friends/family.
2) someone will die without that WMA.
 
i needed to conver to wmas because the server host I use cuts mp3s short while playing songs in teh background. FOr some reason, wma's will play entirely on the server.
 
microsoft's windows media encoder will do it IIRC, but its kinda overkill

winamp will convert MP3's to WMA also, just change your output plugin from Direct Sound or whatever its at to the WMA writer, pick a folder, profit
 
It would be highly preferable to either fix the server software that is behaving badly, or to pad the MP3s so that only silence get cut short. Or, if you are truely tin-eared, you can test a few out and listen to them. Converting to WMA for this reason seems a very inelegant solution to me.
 
when playing in the background? are you streaming them thru winamp, or <embed>ing them, or what? does it deliver full downloads if you click on them (eg do the files get downloaded all the way)? do other files also download all the way? is this a http server or something else? inelegant doesn't start to describe it. anything -> wma is generally a one-way thing unless you have some other software like mplayer to do the conversion. fix the server, not the "borken" mp3s. get apache. good luck.
 
hehe I jsut run the song in the background of a website. Im not quite sure what html tag it uses since the site is a blog (xanga). I run the song off my student account on school server. You'll hear the song in the background but they all get cut early. I tried dling it from the server and they'll download completely. This only happens to mp3s and not wmas.
 
no apparantly all they teach is response curves and how many gigawatts your speakers should put out lol

Like any other dignified school, of course they teach writing. In spite of academics, the atmosphere is very laid back reducing the chances of running into ***holes such as yourself. You do realize it takes more effort to type out an inflammatory response than to ignore minor typographical errors, right? I suggest you put more thought into your responses next time.
