My cuz has to get himself a new comp. his old compaq laptop just isn't cutting it and is more or less trash. He doesn't have too much to spend now only about $800, preferably less. He needs a comp. for some video and audio stuff. Multimedia in general. and a bit of games. He also needs a monitor, keyboard, and mouse with this. Preferably a good but in price range comp. plz. Also if you can he lives on the other coast of the country from me so, I would like the comp. to be pre-built so it can just be shipped to him. The monitor, keyboard and mouse can be bought separately. The monitor, keyboard and mouse are gonna cost around $200 +/- $15.

Appreciate any response.

So $600 to work with then? Or $800? I don't know if you have a monitor in that budget. What's more important, multimedia work or gaming? I'm going to have to comprimise on the CPU and upgradability, or video card and gaming. Having it come from a company adds a fee, too. Does he have any absolute minimums as for HDD space, RAM amount or CD-DVD writing capability? What games? etc.

no really minumums but iwould like their to be atleast 512mb of ram, HDD space atleast 80-120gb(no raptors,SATA not needed either), Multimedia work is more important i think. But try to have it good for gaming too. As for Cd-DVD he needs atleast a CD-RW.
I would prefer it to be a CD-Rw/DVD-Rom it'll be much better for him. Also no emachines. And a monitor is included in the budget but as i've said before. a monitor, keyboard, and mouse can be bought separately for between $100-200. Thanx

Could do this, might want to ask around as far as good intel MBs, I haven't messed with intel in about 6 years. Save some money by buying a used 2.4 or 2.6C in the for sale forums (they seem to be going for about 115 or so) and that will give you enough for an ok case and PSU, something like this:
