hi
im looking for a cheap card (ie less than £40) to put in my HTPC that im building at the mo, gonna build a nice custom case for it. Problem is the only gfx cards ive got at the mo are a pci gf4 mx440 and a agp rage 128pro. The gf4 could be used as it has a video out on it, but the rage 128 is useless as it only has a vga output. However, i want to use this box for some light gaming, maybe a bit of multiplayer bf1942 in front of the TV. The mx440 wont handle this as its a pci card. The rest of the specs are going to be the 2nd rig in my signature- the ti4200 died again :(
So it seems that my choices come down to a fx5200 or a 9200se. I know the fx5200 will handle bf1942 fine as one of my mates had one a while back. But is the ati card any good? ive not had any experience with it. Only requirements are that the card has some form of TV out on it.
cheers, matt.

Give the GF4mx a shot since, if you're playing on the TV output, you're going to be working at the lowest possible resolutions (the TV's native resolution is like 320x200)

yep i speak from experience- this card was bought to upgrade a dell with no agp slot, that didnt quite work out so it ended up in the family computer, a 2ghz dell p4, to replace the rage 128 it came with. Ive just put an agp radeon 7000 64mb in that which is miles better than teh mx440. bf1942 ran at about 20 fps at 640x480 with everything on lowest settings. Its going to be used with a nice big tv so i want reasonable image quality if i do do some gaming.
so fx5200 or 9200se?
