I know everyone is jizzing over doom 3 and how u need a 6800 at least but im on a budget and am looking or a card thats around 200 dollars, preferably nvida becuase i like thier drivers but im open to any arguments for ati

gonna be playing tons of games, but i have been playing them with my current system which is pretty poor, so anything is gonna be better than what i have now

1.4 celeron
radon 9000 PCI

^^ ewwwwww

anyways is buying a 200 dollar card just gonna make me spend more in the long run when i have to upgrade later or should i save up and go balls out for the 6800gt and hope it last longer?

List all the rest of your system so we can help you out a bit more. From those two items, it looks as though you're in for some major upgrades. The 1.4 ghz Celeron will be horrible in D3, id says a 1.5 ghz p4 minimum (keep in mind a 1.5 p4 is like a 2.0 Celeron). Even getting a 6800 gt on that system would not get you great performance. You need an entire system upgrade for next generation games.

yeah im getting a totally new comp

A64 3000+
1gig corsair
maxot 120 x2
K8N Neo Platinum

i was just using my old comp as an example that it can run the newer games, not well, but it can run them and maybe a 6800gt is a lil over kill for me

anyways i was wondering how long the 6800 will last before i need to updrage becuase thats only $283 and i might be able to pull that off. or will a 5900xt give about the same preformance?

idk im kind of a noob with specs but i think everyone is rushing out to buy the best cards when perphaps they aren't needed?

a good, Doom 3 video card for $200ish?

thats easy, the 9800 Pro would win hands down.

that card stick packs quite a whollop even though its considered to be a yesterday card by today's standards but its still one heck of a card for the money.
