What should i be looking for in a power supply to run 8 200GB Seagate SATA hard drives, 2 36GB raptors, and 2 DVD+-RW drives and a high end video card or 2? I have a Lian Li PC-V2000 case?

Heres my result from the takaman's Power Supply Calculator.

They didnt have any 200GB Seagate Hard drives so i used the 80GB. Also used 2 9800xt in the calculator. My current Motherboard is a DFI Lanparty NF2. But when 6800GT PCIe show up ill be heading to NF4.

I only have an Antec TP 510. . They didnt have this forum back then.

Put the numbers down from takaman instead of a URL. What's your price range? If you're willing to spend over $200, get the PCP&C 510 Express.

Link doesnt seem to be working.

80% Load
l8int

100% Load
l8isn

Based on that, the PCP&C 510 Express is probably the best choice for that rig.

Keep in mind those HD figures will likely be off. That's probably the max draw which would be when all of them spin up at once. If that doesn't kill most CPUs right there I don't know what would.

The PCP&C510 would definatly be the way to go for that big of a system. Of course you could also get one of those new monsters they have coming out but one of those would be serious overkill if it fits in your case.

Here is the power consumption information for the Hard Drives.

Power description
# Input Voltage: 5V DC, 5% 12V DC, 10%
# Power Consumption: 12.5W (seek) 12W (read/write) 7.5W (idle) 0.7W (standby)

Im not sure how to enter it in the calculator.

Im using the Broadcom RaidCore BC4852.

Power Requirements
+12 VDC +/-10% (amps typ operating) 2.8
+5 VDC +/-5% (amps typ operating)

so 2.8A on the +12V rail times 8 equals 22.4 amps at spinup
+

12 VDC
Read/Write 349 mA
Idle 338 mA
Standby 15.9 mA
Sleep 16 mA
5 VDC
Read/Write 706 mA
Idle 770 mA
Standby 314 mA
Sleep 184 mA
Power Dissipation
Read/Write 8.400 Watts
Idle 7.900 Watts
Standby 1.760 Watts
Sleep 1.110 Wattts

got you PM the above is just sort of a dump, glad you posted PICs that helps
workin on it :p

I think your might beexceeding the PCP&C turbo cool 510 (34A +12V nominal 38A peak @ 40C) and might need the new ETX series
or an N+1 server PSU (which wouldnt likely fit your case as they arent PS\2 ATX)
Id say it really comes down to the delayed spinup for the array(s) as i mentioned before and Anarchist4000 mentioned above, alternately if you where able to maintain a temperature lower than 40C youd squeeze a bit more, but really its delaying all those drives from trying to spin at the same time that is the core issue

Do you mean that the HDs actually use 8x the power at spin-up? Or does it use 22.4 W at spin-up.

eight drives in that array for a total of 22 Amps to over come inertia
their runtime draw will be like a quarter of that

but we are already at 40A on the +12V rail and havent entered in the 2 Raptors or any case fans :p
that is a shitload of stuff trying to overcome inertia at the same time
the +12V amp draw for CPU mobo ect wont be at maximum in that time frame, but then Im not really sure exactly what kind of draw it will have either during that period

so, either more amps, or stagger the draw so it doesnt happen all at the same time
(a built in feature in most SCSI RAID arrays)

a PCP&C might run as is, but then Im not sure unknown variable in the realtime draw

guess the next step is to research the RAIDcore spinup options
and I have to go to work, so I'll check back this afternoon

Staggered drive spin-up

there is hope :p

I would say your only options are for a PSU that will fit your case are
the PCP&C 510 Turbo Cool (for comparision purposes a 600>650 Watt) $200+
or wait for the 700ETX PCP&C, but info on exactly what when ect is still forthcoming
or a Zippy Emacs 700Watt $300

and you need to measure the case as well the Zippy looks to be an ETX as well
220.00x150.00x86.00 (mm)
8.66x5.91x3.39 (inch)
http://www.zippy.com/P_PRODUCT_DETA...1174&pp_code=PSL-6701P&pcp_rfnbr=3&lv_rfnbr=2
and the DM PARD (AC Ripple) for the +5V rail is a little high at 60mV (spec is 50mV) but the +12V rail is better than spec at 100mV (spec is 120mV)
regulation is basic complinace for the +12V (5%) but the +5V betters that with +4%

for comparision the PCP&C has 1% regulation on all the main rails
and a DM PARD of 10mV for all the main rails which is super clean

im not so sure putting 10 HDs 2 6800 series on any one powersupply is a good idea...

Thanks for all the help. I am going to pickup the Zippy Emacs 700Watt from newegg in 3 weeks if the PCP&C 700ETX dont appear. It wont be until the end of December before i know if it can handle everything. Does anyone know how many sata connectors are on the zippy?
