Need a 17" Gaming LCD

I currently have a NEC MultiSync LCD1700M+ and it's been great for the 4+ years I've had it but I think it's time to get a new monitor, the VGA cable (no DVI) is going and it's not replacable.

When this LCD was introduced response time was not advertised as LCDs were just starting to make their way to the desktop, this NEC was like $800 new.

Anyway, I need a good 17" LCD for gaming that is below $400 with DVI, any recommendations?

Dell has two models that look pretty similar but they don't publish response times...

What about Samsung or Viewsonic or NEC? Or even that new Shuttle?

Is the 710T worth the extra $20?
 
I've heard good things of the 710T from reading on the forums here.

From the info I gathered, the 710T barely edges the 172x in user satisfaction/following.

That being said, I've yet to own any LCD (eyeing the 2005FPW) nor have I payed attention to the other LCD brands/models you mentioned

go check out a 712n or the 172X at a local best buy/compusa. i wasn't impressed w/ the 712n, and returned it. two returns later, and i just realized the viewing angle of the screen was all fucked up.
 
What are you going to do with your old monitor? I will pay for shipping if you want to get rid of it.
 
Thanks for the input guys. As for my current monitor, it is either going to replace the 10-year old 13" packard bell monitor that I use for my server or I'll give two monitors a shot. Sorry. :D

So what are you using now?
 
I'd suggest the Samsung 712N, I have one and it's excellent for gaming. If you have a Best Buy close to you, go pick one up this friday between 6am and noon, they're $249 after about $120 in mail-in rebates which is an absolute steal. if i had the money i'd pick up a second.

While that is a good deal this is going to be my christmas/birthday present from my parents. I'm not going to make my mom go out on Black Friday while they are at my grandma's in NJ. Have you ever been to a BB (or any shop for that matter) in NJ on Black Friday? :eek:
 
FYI, the Samsung 712N does NOT have DVI. Only analog. You may want to spring for the 710T.
 
The 712N doesn't have DVI but it's a pretty good monitor. I like mine and would definitely reccomend it for $250 (BB Friday). The money you save could be put towards another future monitor when LCD technology is further refined.
