I was at my local Fry's this past weekend. I was eyeing their NEC LCDs, those things look beautiful. They appear to use a diffent material than most other manufactures for their fronts, looks like clear glass or something.

Are they really worth the extra difference in the prices tags? I am looking to finally ditch my CRTs, and get an LCD, and was in a amazement at the colors of these things, but wasn't sure about the timings and their overall acceptance in the community.

So what seems to be the main opinion on the 19"+ NEC panels?

I would personally love one but I dunno if its worth the 649.99 or not. The glossy screen is iffy with me too. Id have to see it in person. Just kills me tho I can get a dell 2007WFP on sale for like 350 or less and that nec is like double the price.

It is an amazing display. Well worth the cash. I was going to get a 2407, but the rave reviews of the NEC turned me to downscale to a 20 inch. When the screen is on, it is like you arent even looking into glass, it looks like you are looking directly at the liquid crystal.

Makes me extremely scared to touch the screen in any way, like my finger is going to be absorbed into the liquid display :p

You will not be disappointed with the thing. Mine arrived flawlessly, no dead pixels, no banding , absolutely no backlight bleeding.

So... beautiful....

You know, I actually havent watched a movie on it. I don't really use my computer for that as I have an HDTV \ proscan dvd player right next to it.

But, tonight, I will pop in a movie and let you know :p

Sweet, thanks. I dont normal watch movies on mine either but its going to be used as another tv/dvd player at some point.

How do the other two glossy panels compare, the Acer F-20 ($400) and the Asus P201 ($550)?

Movies look damn good on it. I bet Bacon has been spending plenty of quality time with his since he got it :p

My thoughts on the Asus PW201:

I did look at the Acer in person (where did you find it for $400?) and thought it was cool but the screen was not as adjustable as the Asus.

I have the NEC 19" GX not GX2 and I like that a lot. It's a quality panel.

And I just don't want to pay that much for a NEC panel with ok bezel design.

The Acer F-20 is under $400 shipped at pricegrabber at a few places.

So which has the best picture of the 3, do you think?

I'll admit it that the NEC has a slightly better picture than my ASUS.
But is it worth the price? I choose style and functionality over performance.
My 19" NEC GX is slightly brighter than the ASUS. And when I checked out the NEC in store it's the same brightness. So that's my opinion on better picture.

Wow $400 roughly at ZipZoomFly.
I wonder why the huge price drop recently? Probably competition.

Why is that $400 and the Acer AL2032WA or is around $430 from the first reputible company? Hmm.

Supply and demand probably. The F-20 price tends to drop for a few weeks then shoot back up.

Since the NEC is down to just over $600, I'd still choose the NEC.

they are ok,
Check specs on dell's ultrasharps and see how they compair

Dell this Dell that, I am tired of hearing about Dell's.

Dell's can not hang with the shittiest of shitty glossy screens.

Don't get me wrong I love my 2405 but it is nothing compared to my 20" glossy when I am playing games or watching TV or movies.

I've had my NEC for 3 days now...

Simply put - it's definitely worth it, it's the most amazing monitor I've ever used. I'm a photographer, so the monitors main use is for processing photos. The colors are perfect, and the prints from my epson r2400 come out looking exactly like they do on the monitor, which is very important.

I ordered mine from bhphotovideo.com, it came quickly with no dead pixels, and no backlight bleed.

10/10!

Holy crap I just got mine from frys and its the best LCD on the planet!
I got the NEC 20WMGX2 with the TV Tuner! Crystal Clear, Great Colors! Very very very minimal input lag if any. WOW!

I have a NEC 90GX2 and it is amazing. It is very bright and the colors along with the blacks are deep and vibrant. I love it! Very happy with it's performance and movie look very good. Any questions or want pics feel free to PM me. 10 out of 10 in all aspects.

I also have the 20WMGX2 and can say that it is without a shadow of a doubt the best LCD i have ever used. I was always quite sceptical about the quality of LCDs but to be honest, i haven't seen anything that comes close, it really does have everything - great picture and every AV connection you could need (well except HDMI but who needs that on a monitor anyway :))

Did i mention the great picture quality??? Its just sublime!!

10/10

By the way.. I recently watched a movie on the NEC and I was very happy with the quality. Ive heard some negative things about movie playback with the NEC, but I didn't notice any issues. We watched Ronin (awesome movie, if you havent seen it).

Could yall post some pix here of your NECs, I am really thinking I might just buy one, though $600 is a lot of cash.

I have the 20WMGX2 as well and I LOVE it. I was looking at all the current monitors availible and chose this one. I bought it 2 weeks ago. No dead pixels and very very minimal backlight bleed (not even noticeable, unless you are crazy like me)

It has the most amazing IQ. You will not be disappointed

Also, I had an NEC LCD1765 for the past 2 years and never had any issues either.

yup, i got a NEC monitor, and i have to say it is magic, iq is good, it has lots of ports 2 dvi and 2 vga, so i can use it with 4 pcs or whatever, but i have noticed, at the top of mine i see a slight touch of buurn in, annoying but its being replaced as we speak, but apart from that, i would recommend these monitors.
