nec ND-3550A problems back to back

hey guys just finished my build about 2 weeks ago and eveything is running sweet except my drives .At first i just got 1 nec nd-3550a but it was burnning slow so i ordered another one and it burns fast just like it should but sometimes it wont play any type of cd or dvd or game it will just try and try until i open and close the door a few times?

Now the first drive i sent it back to new egg for replacement and just installed it and again slow burns ,it says its burning at 8x but its takeing 9 minutes more then my other nec drive?

So after replacements i end up with a good fast burning drive that has playing issues and another drive that has burning issues,whats the deal do these things just suck? I know there only 40 bucks maybe thats why?

The drive that burns slow seems to use up alot of cpu usage while its burning but my other drive uses almost no cpu usage while burning?whats the deal with that?

Well if any of you know anything of my problems let me asap please.

Oh and how do i post pics so you guys could see my first build came out pretty sweet.
