NEC ND-2500A (DVD-/+R 8x) For $69

I got in on the officemax deal for better than the ad. The ad said: $89.99 - $40MIR = $49.99, but it rings up for: $79.99 - $30MIR and I used a $10 off $40 snail mail coupon = $39.99.

But it gets better because the online submission for the rebate is $40: $79.99 - $10 coupon - $40MIR = $29.99.

The drive was a ND-2500A in the box.

Linky is broken .. here's the right one.

The price is $129.98 - $30 MIR - $40 MIR = $59.98

I don't trust the 2 MIR run around, though.... especially when they both freaking ask for the original UPC, it isn't worth my time to call customer service for a couple hours to get it straightened out.

That's not the deal. The 4 day flyer linked below has a special price for the drive: $89.99 - $40MIR = $49.99. It actually rings up in most stores as $79.99 because it only prints a $30MIR. But it's possible to get the drive for $29.99 if you submit the rebate online from officemax's site and use a $10 off printed coupon in store.

I bought this drive off Newegg a few months ago. It is a very sweet drive for the money. I haven't had a problem burning any coasters, be it DVD R/RW or CD R/RW. I highly recommend this drive.

how does this drive compare to the lite-on SOHW-812S, which is only a dollar more?

I got one of these babies awhile back, it does great out of the box.... But it'll do even better with hacked firmwares :D. I'm not on my main comp right now, so I don't have a link handy, but just google out Herrie NEC Firmware and you'll find the good stuff. Or goto cdfreaks.com, check out their NEC forum, there will probably be a thread there about it.

And for those scoring the Officemax Deal (its possible to get it down to $19.99 as well) look for the Khypermedia 25 packs of DVD+R media for $15 there as well. On the NEC 2500a these will burn at speeds of up to 8x even though the media is advertised at only 1-2.4x. Thats only 60 cents a disc for 8x DVD+Rs, not bad.

wow great find guys, i'll check this out tomorrow after work ! err i think 6/26 is the last day for this, i think i missed it :(

edit: i took the print out with me to OM today, the drive rang up for $89, not $79.

also, the $40 MIR printed out. so it came out to be 49.99 + tax ... so i missed out on the good stuff i guess :(

and yes, it is the NEC 2500A, and i will mod mine to be a dual layer burner :)

where is the $10 off $40 coupon?

is this what you're talking about:

that's 10% off, not $10 off (a little difference :D ) ... the lady said she couldn't do that, cuz she could only do 1 coupon code per item or something, she was kinda new ... should i go back and get someone different to help me out?

Oh, and Lopoetve, the 812S can be modded into the 832S as well, giving it double-layer capability.

i saw an om ad and the 49.99 AR deal is coming back this coming sunday 7/10... i might just have to get another ;)

sorry kindof off topic but can this burner make movies that plays on a xbox?

Make? It can burn movies and it should play in your Xbox.

Got mine and flashed it up to support dual layer. Nero now shows Type 5 (DVDR 4.7Gb) and Type 9 (DVD 8.4Gb) support! Woohoo! Now, if I could only find the media... :(
