NEC released a new professional display, the MultiSync PA271W. Its 27-inch panel has an aspect ratio of 16:9, with a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The 10-bit IPS panel is capable of covering 97.1 percent of AdobeRGB colour space. Other important specifications include panel response time of 7 ms (GTG), static contrast ratio of 1000:1, maximum brightness of 300 cd/m², and inputs which include DVI and DisplayPort

Going price : $1,399 US.

Is anyone else as excited as I am about this? :D

I would be if I didn't have a 25.5" screen and I'm not sure that I would like the minor size increase even though the resolution is 1.6 times mine :(. On second thought if the monitor is hardware calibrate-able then #()$*#()$ yeah.

...actually the PA271W is smaller than the 2690wuxi in height but slightly wider.

It's just under $1600 for the SV version in Canada (plus 13% tax in Ontario = ~$1800); a great price next to the PA241W.

I was very close to buying the Dell U2711 just because it was available for under $900 including tax and shipping, but I'd really, really like a hardware LUT.

I'm going to wait for the PA301W unless it's well over $2500. I just don't know how I'd like the high pixel density of the 27 incher from a viewing distance of ~3 feet away. I wouldn't want to have to raise the default DPI in any OS.

Better have 990:1 contrast and 0.10cdm/2 for blacks, other wise I will pass. 30ms- input lag and less than 1 frame of ghosting would be nice. But it is IPS so obviously its going to disapoint in terms of contrast. Maybe this means Samsung and HP have some new 27" displays in store as well?

That would be a no , Samsung nor HP have plans for anything of this resolution. Not sure on the input latency but probably 20-30ms , considering its a higher end NEC the contrast will likely be just fine since it'll be a cherry picked ips panel.

They might sense NEC and Dell are making the jump, it would be stupid not too. If Samsung makes their C-PVA panels faster they will kill the competition with a 27" C-PVA. IPS panels almost always have low contrast ratios (700:1-) except for the NEC EA23 and new Fujitso 22w5 Eco.

If the Fujitso can do it hopefully the 27" NEC can!

don't forget apple 27" cinema display coming out next month (rumored) same panel... I am glad to see the NEC at $1399 as hopefully that means the Apple might be the same or a little cheaper (really hoping for $1199)

Is this going to be an LED panel? haven't seen anything saying what type of backlighting it will have. I am guessing no!

Hi Aumakua,

The MultiSync PA271W is a CCFL backlight panel. CCFL is still the most effective way to offer a high performance wide color gamut display at a reasonable price.

Hope this helps!

But the new apple will be LED, and for about the same price (any higher and it would be too close to the 30" price).

I realize LED does not really make a monitor superior but it really helps with power reduction.

I've seen nothing other than pure speculation that points to the 27" Apple display being a 10-bit panel. I think they would be advertising the crap out of that if it was. My guess is it will be a different grade of monitor, more comparable to the U2711 from Dell rather than the PA271W.

I wonder if it will have a hardware sRGB LUT mode to fallback to for people not using this monitor for print production work.

Hi sethk,

The MultiSync PA271W has a 14-bit 3D LUT in the display and also has a very accurate sRGB preset.

The MultiSync PA series has a dedicated color processor (SpectraView Engine) that can perform full 3D color gamut transforms to a high color bit-depth internally in the display. This coupled with the individual unit factory measurement and internal stabilization means that very accurate color gamut transforms can be done with no loss in image quality.

Hi does the the PA271W have a "through" mode that bypasses the LUT and processing for a low input lag option for the people who want it?
For me this was one of the selling points for the Dell U2410, however I did not buy it because of the reported 'graininess' drawback to its aggressive anti-glare coating.
Also does the PA271W have a matte or glossy coating?

No one really knows this yet , as it was just announced. When someone buys or reviews it we'll know more.

Good stuff - thanks.

anyone know where else I can purchase this monitor or it is not widely available yet?

Can't wait for these to come out, my Benq G2400's colors are starting to look pixelated. Time to save up for a new display for my photo editing D:
