I find myself stuck between the 20WGX² to match and set beside my vp201b view sonic lcd
and the VX922 for reassured best first person game performance. I really want to be able to play counterstrike source and after reading many reviews none of them really eliminate the 20WGX². They say that its only on paper that the VX922 is the fattest and their are other monitors that are just as good. Many reviews on the 20WGX² model don't love the high reflection on, but it can't deny that it is extremely fast. I don't have any other lcd experience except my first lcd the vp201b and its a 16ms delay which is so bad that I can't play fps on it at all. I don't know what a 12ms, 6ms or 2ms feel like when playing games. Is their anybody who has played cs on these monitors and could make suggestions.

20WGX2 is better by far. The reviews on it, are probably done in a office - so the bright lights shining down on it will reflect alot, but at home you wont have as many lights as an office does.

Nice pics.

I don't use the 20WMGX2 for gaming but I know the monitor is potent and if people don't set it right they could think something is wrong when its not. The appearence of what looks like banding is one example.

The gloss thing is over-rated to me. I wonder how many people who complain about it have actually used the monitor. It's no more reflective than my CRT or TV and if I don't put a light or window behind it it's jus not an issue. The S-PVA with all the color shifting was a lot stranger to me. Any reflections can be controlled usually. The exception is if people are sitting farther back from it and can't move lights etc. That image degrading, non-glossy finish is more oppressive in my mind and its one reason why I thought LCD's looky so bad for so long. The photo below was posted by someone here and when I saw it I knew the reflection thing was not an issue for me (and thats a bright flash in screen) because I could see the better clarity (and its better in person)

Go ask xtknight over at Anandtech what he would use for gaming in your situation. He has the NEC but suggests other monitors for stricter gaming issues. Ask in the LCD Buyer Guide up top.

In the link given by abcdelight above ( http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/5067/site1052relt2.jpg) Not only does it look like the Gloss screen gives a better picture but it looks like the matt screen has more glare, which is somthing I alwas thought the matt screens did. It seems like the matt screens take the glare and spred it out over a larger area and the gloss screens just show the glare as it realy is.

i had the 20WMGX2 and even when my lights were on i didnt notice any huge glare from it, sometimes i forgot that it has a glossy coating. They did the glossy pretty well, not enough to be a glare fest with lights and sun but just enough to make a difference between matte and glossy. I really liked the gloss coat on the NEC as it made things look clearer and sharper and helped make it so i couldnt see the individual pixels as well, unlike matte. Only reason why I sold it was 20" is a tad small for me and got a westy 37 coming. If the NEC was 24" i wouldnt have even thought about selling it, woulda kept it as a spare or 2nd display.

I have been spending my whole weekend looking for a new monitor and can't pull the trigger between a 22" matt or a 20" Glossy (Acer F-20) don't have the cash for the NEC but the Acer Glossy I hear is good also.
So big Mat,Flat 22" or Gloss 20"....That pic you posted makes me want the Glossy 20"....Think I need help....:)

Thanks for the info and the 20WGX2 looks great!! I see what people were talking about in both of the pictures and to me it dosen't look like a problem with the reflection.

"don't have the cash for the NEC "

Yeah its not cheap - but its $550ish USD at Page Computer and The Nerds. That's pretty good for all you get (TV tuner too) if you can swing it. For what its worth, where you buy isn't as important with NEC because as soon as you open box there is flyer saying you deal direct with NEC and not seller if anything is wrong. I would have just got one from Newegg and skipped tax if I knew that. I bought at Best Buy instead.

Just get NEC 20WGX2, it's much better display, you can't even compare the two. For regular usage (gaming / movies / office / net) that NEC really shines (no pun intended).

NEC is coming out with a 24" and a 26" soon but I think it's only the 26" that will have same non matte Opticlear as the 20WGMX2. I couldn't say it was a larger version of the 20 though. People here have posted about the monitors and I saw some pics and a user guide from NEC. Here is a thread about the 26 (think that comes out in Spring with the 24 out this week or so)

believe travbomb have said something about june or mid 2007 if you can wait.

Is there any other choice in 20" to 24" that doubles as a great PC gaming monitor and television? From what I have read this is the only one out there in this price range.

I did find this. SONY MFM-HT205 I don't know how it compares with the NEC.
