NEC MultiSync 1970GX Review ?

Hi guys :)

I recently had big problems with my Mitsubishi 930SB CRT monitor and decided to finally go for a LC Display. The firm I got the CRT from wouldn't give me my cash back (obviously), but they will subtract the CRT's price from the final price of a LCD monitor of my choice. The problem was, that they only have Mitsubishi / NEC displays. I was not happy with the specifications of the currently available models, because I use my pc for gaming. But few days ago, I saw they added NEC 19" LCD MultiSync 1970GX. I searched for some reviews, but... nothing. It's like this display is not yet out, but this is not the case - I phoned the retailers and they said thet they have it in store for few days now.

The price is 500-600 Euros (depending on the VAT %).I was wondering whether this display has another name (apart from LCD1970GX-BK)? Because the search results are so few...
If you don't get me - I just want a simple (or not so simple ;) review...

So, the info is not exactly "lacking", but still... no reviews or what so ever. And some of the specifications are different @ the different sources. (even on the NEC US site on the one page it says contrast 700:1, and on the other - 500:1 :)

Interesting! I know the LCD 1980SX is their top of the line, no info yet on 1970gx? Lower number means lower quality??

Oh no, I highly doubt it - all of 1970GX's specs are superior to 1980SX. GX stands for Gamer X... something. Hope there will be some reviews soon.
 
Sounds pretty good on paper. I've been pleased with NEC's LCDs in the past so my feeling is that it should be a good buy. As for reviews, you can wait, but I find that a relatively small percentage of LCDs get reviewed extensively, so you may wait a few months and still be no better off than you are now. Based on the specs on paper I'd say that you probably won't be dissapointed with the screen. The only area in which it is lacking is the vertical viewing angle, but all TN displays with glossy finishes and high respoinse times are lacking in this area, so it wouldn't be any different than going with a Sony or a Viewsonic.
 
I don't see a DVI input on NEC's specs. I think is a dual analog input lcd.
 
Bah, it does have a DVI-D input, and it looks like a glossy screen, so it must be at least as good as my Viewsonic 912B.
 
So any Euro members who have had a chance to buy/test this monitor yet? It just got listed on the North American NEC/Mitsubishi site, but still no availability or price listed ...
 
I doubt it has 16.7 million colours with a 8ms panel.

Otherwise im sure the north american site's specs would reflect this and show it as 16.7 instead of "Over 16 million" :eek:
 
That it was what I thought - but at least one German spec has it as 16 7 ... it will be interesting when it is finally released - hopefully someone will review it sooner rather than later ...
 
So it's now available in Canada and the US - anyone actually got their hands on one yet?
 
Well, It has that reflective film overtop of the screen just like the sonys. So the colours looked great and the blacks looked really black. but because of the film over the screen it was kind of reflective... They were running a demo on every screen, off an XBox. I really wish they had one on one of the computers they were selling there so i could see what it looked like through a computer not an xbox :/

I'm also going to check out the hyundai L90D+ at tigerdirect during the week, so we'll see how they compair.

I would be very appreciative of that comparison. I am in a rural area so I rely a lot on reviews and other people impressions - so thanks!
 
Picked one up at Futureshop in Canada. Intial impressions are very good but I have to test it a lot more. Right now I can say

-Ghosting is not an issue. 8ms is more then enough
-The screen is VERY BRIGHT (Not really a bad thing as you can turn brightness down)
-Colours look great with that Sony style front glare thingy
-Black is very black <--Mean this to be a good thing
-It does a pretty decent job with colours when you consider its a TN panel.
-LCD is very adjustable, height and pivot turn. You can raise it pretty damn high.

Im thinking of purchasing one in the next couple days just wanted to know how does the text look on it? Movie play back? and of course how well does it perform in gaming?
