Can anyone tell me what the last "-2" means in this NEC model number?

LCD2170NX-BK-2

I'm asking because I'm thinking about picking up a refurb and I want to make sure it has the same S-PVA panel as the LCD2170NX-BK (at least, this website tells me it has an S-PVA panel: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/panelsearch.htm).

Also, does anyone know how how well this monitor handles grayscales, particularly black and white images with lots of contrast? I'll be doing much image editing and need good grayscale reproduction.

Thanks!

NX-BK-2 is probably a minor revision compared to the original. If it were NX2-BK it would be likely that it uses a different panel.

As for grayscale, I don't think people here have much experience with this model. If I were serious about grayscale I would pick up a model with a 10/12-bit internal LUT that can be programmed by the vendor's software. I believe loading ICC information into the Video Card Gamma Table introduces the likelihood of banding.

Thanks for the information, I hadn't even thought about looking for displays w/10 or 12 bit LUT.

I'd like to spend less than $500 (which is why I'm looking at refurbs), but I see that a new NEC MultiSync P221W is ~$400 and it has a programmable 10 bit LUT. Are there any other comparable displays in the <$500 price range?
