I have a NEC 2690WUXI2 but there is very significant ghosting, even larger than my old NEC that has a larger response time. Is this a common problem, or does it have a known solution?

Yes, I have turned on lcd overdrive/response improve.

Bummer!
You have played with it both on and off? On some screens the overdrive just messes things up and actually creates more ghosting.
