NEC 2490WUXi....... Been checking out the measurements with stand to see if it will fit on my desk.It says it's 22.9" high is that with the stand in it's lowest position and it says it's 12" deep. Is that from the back leg to the front of the panel? The width says 21.8 X 17,what does that mean? Can you still get the earlier version with the polarize panel and calbrator. If so what is the model #. Thanks

Model number with polariser: 2490WUXi. Model number without polariser: 2490WUXi2.

Go here and select the 2490 from the drop down list of Multisync porducts and you will get a drawing of the monitor showng all the dimensions you want and more.

Do you know if you can still get the model with the polariser and the calibrator bundle?

The bundle is 2490Wuxi-SV.

I've seen it for sale on newegg, amazon, and the NEC site for about $200 more. It includes the software and a colorimeter

OK I found the older model. Now the question is,are they better then the new ones without the polariser?

Have you actually done any research at all?

The polarizer reduces/eliminates the white glow when viewing dark images from an angle, but as a side-effect, a magenta or green glow shows up depending on the angle. It's not as obnoxious as the white glow, but it does introduce a different color tint, and some photographers prefer the white glow over the color tint for their color work. Whichever one is better is purely personal preference. Outside of the polarizer, the new v2's have better advertised contrast ratio, lower max brightness (400 down to 320nits; still overly bright, but more manageable) and slightly closer to sRGB gamut.

Yup that's what I'm doing right now. Thanks, I read that it eliminated the white glow but saw nothing on the tint it introduced. It's a good thing I asked If I want tint I'll buy the U2410.

I just measured mine with an old ruler:

21.9" = width of monitor (including bezel)
14.4" = height of monitor only (including bezel)

22.6" = height @ highest position
16.9" = height @ lowest position
12.2" = back of base to front tip of base

The earlier model is LCD2490WUXi-BK-SV

Thankyou, do you see the tint problem with the older model that DarkScythe is talking about. If you had a choice would you keep the one you have or get the newer model? Sorry I just re-read your post,I'm not sure which one you have.

Albovin's comprehensive 2490 review thread should have all the information you need on the original 2490.

I've had two 2490's so far (exchanging due to screen issues) but both have exhibited the off-angle magenta/green tint due to the polarizer; the upside - less white glow. Obviously, it won't look like true black, but that goes for pretty much everything. I have also seen a 2690v2 which does not have the polarizer, and I notice quite a bit more white glow off-angle, and no color tint due to the absence of the polarizer. It also seems to manage better black levels due to the increased contrast.

You mean its off angle tint. Do you see that when you look at straight. How did you exchange the monitor?. Through NEC? what were issues you had?. Do use see any other drawbacks except the input lag?

I had posted all of that info in albovin's thread.

To summarize, looking at it straight on, yes I can see the tint in a dark room on a dark image, but then the white glow is also visible under these circumstances as well. My first one had several dead subpixels spread over 2 pixels, and later discovered the entire screen had a pink tint to it. That second one was odd, because I wouldn't have noticed it if I didn't get my second one to compare with. It was a very obvious pink tint, but it was very uniformly pink, all over the screen. NEC would not warranty it citing a 6-dead-subpixel minimum or something. I went to Provantage instead, where I bought it from, and the CS rep informed me that "any" dead pixels counted as defective and could be returned, so I did that. My new screen has zero pixel issues and no pink tint, but there's a patch on the lower left corner of my screen that is quite a bit darker than the rest of the screen, which colorcomp does not fix. It's not massively dark, but it is noticeable since it covers about 1/3 of the screen, and I've measured it to be anywhere from 10~25cd/m2 darker than the center of the screen, regardless of colorcomp level.

This makes it very hard to decide. I want the monitor for photo editing,not so much for gaming. So the tint is not so good and the white glow isn't either.It seems every 24" monitor I try to get has problems. I thought the U2410 was going to be the one until I started reading about it. Maybe I should stay with my SyncMaster 215TW and forget upgrading.

You're going to get white glow no matter what. The only thing that tried to negate it was the A-TW polarizer, and that came with its own tradeoff. If you're doing heavy photography, I'd say maybe take a look at the v2's without the polarizer. You'll have white glow, but your current LCD should have some as well. In any case, photographers I know prefer the white glow over a color tint, because the white glow doesn't necessarily mess with their colors, and their photos are usually in the aRGB color space.

I was using a Sony GDM-F520 CRT before I got my 2490. I thought someone was going to have to pry the CRT out of my cold, dead hands.

The NEC 90 series is so much better to work with than clumsy video card based LUT systems. The only time I really notice the contrast/blacks problem is in games, never in photography work. For photography the perfect calibration without affecting displayed shades and the wealth of other professional-grade features that weren't even thought of in the CRT days make it a joy.

Granted, I have the A-TW polarizer, but even without it I think the 2490 would be a huge win over a CRT. The same can't be said of most LCDs out there.

I have the original 2490 with A-TW.

I see no dark tint until at an extreme angle and even then it is extremely minor. White glow is MUCH more prevalent (I had another IPS for a while).

I would say get the original if possible.

There is also some indication that the new version might have more sparkle effect from the AR coating than the original as well.

BTW here is what the difference looks like. I saw no tint while shooting these, but I saw a lot of glow (Small screen is TN but the effect is the same).

Thanks Snowdog I needed that. Looks like I'll be getting the older one. I have the Spyder3pro. Will this calibrator work with this monitor? I know it's not good for wide gamut panels.
