Sorry, I scoured the other thread and I still did not really understand what I am doing wrong. I am a total newb when it comes to LCD's... (The sheer amount of adjusting I've been attempting to do on the monitor is a bit of an undertaking.. Im not quite sure how to make this thing look its best).

The monitor is really friggin awesome! But even after reading the big thread on the monitor, Im still very confused about the scaling issue. If I play a game at .. say... 1280x1024, it is always stretched. I turn it to the DVI-HD mode, and I still cannot select other modes of scaling. It is always set at expansion. DVI-PC or DVI-HD.. doesn't matter. Whenever I go to the "expansion" tab, it says "read the manual for more info". I check out the manual, and there really isnt anything on this. I really want the thing to be fit into 4:3 and have black bars in the native resolution as opposed to having it stretched and blurry. I can handle a smaller screen!

Also, if anyone has any good information on monitor calibration through software, I would be greatful. Someone said there was a program on the CD that came with it, but unfortunately, mine did not come with a CD. I did install the drivers for the monitor from a website though :)

Anyways, any info would be appreciated. Im really loving this thing.. I just have to get it configured correctly.

Calibration I'm not too sure on. There is this software called Naviset, that lets you change the monitors settings (contrast, color, etc) through WIndows as opposed to the OSD, but I wasn't really impressed by it.

What video card do you have? I know how to set what you want for nvidia but for ATI I can't point ya in the right direction, although someone can I bet.

To set it for nvidia, open the control panel, click on nView Display Settings, select your new NEC (if you have multiple monitors) and then click on Device Settings. From the menu that pops up, click on Device Adjustments, and set it to Fixed aspect ratio scaling. This will give you the scaling and black bars you are looking for.

Hopefully you have nvidia and that works for you.

Edit: I forgot to add, the scaling settings in the monitor's OSD only work when you are NOT using the DVI input.

Unfortunately I do not have it as an option. Only

Treat digital display as an HDTV
Select TV Format
Color Correction
NV Rotate
Change Resolution
Rename

Those are the only options I have available :(

Which driver version do you have? I have the 84.21s. Also, not related totally but it may somehow, do you have multiple monitors?

I too just noticed what you said about the rest of the options not showing up correctly. For some reason the full range of choices doesn't always display properly, but it was totally there when I posted earlier. Try it a few times. I closed the panel and re-opened it, and now its displaying properly. I got some nview error when they disappeared, however, which was odd.

You could also possibly try the newest driver release from nvidia. New WHQL drivers were just released a few days ago.

Nope.. no multiple monitors (yet). Ill try different drivers... Ive heard about some issues with them though, I will have to do a bit of research first.

Like I said though.. loving the LCD, but I really wanna figure this out. Then I can spend a bunch of time tweaking..... I want the perfect setups for gaming :p

Bump. I am still having this issue. I reinstalled my drivers which were 84.21

I cannot find it through drivers... the NEC monitor is listed under the display settings, the device settings just doesnt have it. No display adjustment :( I also don't dare install the new 91.31 drivers as everyone is saying they are pretty terrible!

The fate of me running multi monitor widescreen instead of my LCD and my CRT depends on this! I must be able to play older games at a normal aspect ratio with black bars! DONT MAKE ME USE MY CRT INSTEAD OF MY 2ND WIDESCREEN!

What about advanced timing? That has options for scaling.. but I honestly have no clue what Im doing. Considering it makes you accept a user agreement thingy like if you are OC'ing your card, it scares me :)

Ya I don't think that will work.

I am not sure, but possibly your card doesn't have this feature? I know it sounds far fetched, but nvidia has done some stupid things in the past like not allowing PureVideo to work on all of its high end cards. I'm gonna scour the huge NEC 20WMGX2 thread and see if I can dig that up. I think i remember reading about some nvidia cards that didn't have the ability to do this, but I don't recall what model it was.

I actually got it to work this morning before work. For some reason I had to actually click on the monitor underneath the "single display\ NEC 20wmgx2" tabs. I clicked on the monitor and it gave me some different options. I dont remember the exact option I went into, but one of the tabs in it was "digital flat panel display settings" and it had the scaling options there. Why it isnt under the device settings I have no clue.. but thankfully it worked and looks great. Im very pleased.

Thanks for the reply though. I do appreciate it. The monitor is stunning to look at .. it really is. I just dislike the need to switch between modes for different games. And for some reason, the "games" DVMode looks the worst of all of them. Some games look good with standard, some games look good with Movie, some games look good with Photo. I actually think I like photo the most, as the colors are the most vibrant and the blacks are the most black.

All in all... Im pretty happy. I just think I will miss true black :(

I did it by making sure to uncheck treat display as a HDTV then click apply and go back into the control panel, this then allowed me to select display adjustments where you can pick the pixel ratios. Good luck. I'm also using 91.31
