I just got my NEC Display and gave the old Nokia CRT the boot.

Problem is, i connected the NEC to the DVI connection on my Radeon X800XL card... and it works great in windows, but i have no picture during boot??

Why is this?

Appearently it's a bug in the monitor or driver, i read about it on another forum. D-SUB should work fine, but when you switch to DVI is does not work, right?

Well here is what you have to do:
First, make sure the monitor is connected through D-SUB and you have a screen. Then connect the monitor using the DVI cable (yes, you won't see anything), then disconnect the D-SUB cable while the monitor is still on. Reboot your computer while you are in your OS (Windows XP..?) (alt+f4 enter, or winkey > up > enter > right > right > enter, if you have the welcome screen turned on.)

If should work now when the computer reboots.

Let me know if it did!

It works in windows with DVI!
Only not during the boot process.
So when i reboot, i loose picture. "No signal" on both D-SUB and DVI.
But as soon u get to windows loading your personal settings and such, the image comes back.

Will trie to connect the monitor via the D-SUB though.

Thanx! :)

Tried your tip.

I disconnected he DVI, and connected the monitor through D-SUB.
Rebooted and i get picture in boot like one normally would.
When in windows, i disconnected D-SUB and reconnected DVI. Picture comes back.

Reboot, and its the same as before :(

Any other ideas?

Oh ffs!!

I paused my PC on the post screen. No image.
Connected a different LCD (a viewsonic) to the DVI and i GET a picture.
So theres not anything wrong with the card i presume?

Still in pause at post i reconnect the NEC, and VOILA!
I get picture!! :D

I rebooted and CRAP!! Picture ghone again.

I just got a 20WGX2 and had the same problem. You want to change the monitor from DVI-HD to DVI-PC mode. I'm at work and don't rememeber exactly where it is, but it's in the menu somewhere.

I tried connecting a second PC with a Radeon 9700 in it.

This works as it normally should. I have image on the screen all the way.

Looks to me if theres something wrong with the DVI output of my X800XL then...

Nah, don't think its your video card. The Apple monitor for instance, cannot show the BIOS/Boot stuff/DOS/Safe Mode with some certain videocards..

I cant find that setting mate! By the way, i'm in norway... and i think teres a difference between these monitors sold in europe sompared to the US version about the HD capable stuff..?

If you press menu, press right five times and down then down eight you'll find what I'm talking about. You'll want the left option (DVI-PC) I know there are minor differences between the US and Eropean models. So my fix may not work for you, but it fixed it so I could see boot on my Nvidia 6800.

I have been on several forums, and had a little testing.

Heres what i found:
On my X800XL, all is ok with a Viewsonic VP171b monitor. I get post/boot picture.
With my NEC, it doesn't work, as already stated.

If i use the Viewsonic, and start up. During post i hit "pause" button to freeze the boot process.
Then i reconnect the NEC. Voila!! I have post picture on it. But on the next reboot its ghone again.

I connected the NEC to a different machine with a Rad 9700.
And it works on that card!

I tried with another X800GTO card.
Same issue. No picture.

I tried with a X1600XT.
It works! post/boot shows.

A guy on another forum told me this is because of the EDID programming of the screen. The X800 series does not read the screen data correctly.

So either NEC or ATi has a ••••up here somewhere
